Imperial Elec-"tronics" Knife?

I kinda thought this would be a cool idea. The shell handles on this Imperial electricians knife were pretty much done for, so I replaced them with a set of slabs made from circuit board. The phenolic should last for ages. I also shaved the linerlock. It makes for a nice, thin, easy to carry folder. Another thing I like about these electricians knives, is the strong halfstops.

Thanks guys! My brother gave me an unused 11" x 16" circuit board and I just had to try it. It's tough stuff and makes a pretty unique handle material.

Tough stuff indeed. Ever try to break a circuit board. Not only is it extremely difficult to do with just your hands but IT'S DANGEROUS (I have the scars to prove it.)

You could do it with copper pins, but I don't think it would hold up as well as brass or nickel silver, especially at the main pivot. There may be a copper alloy or a tempered copper pin stock, but I don't know of any.

To answer your question on the Camillus, yes, as I recall they were made with real circuit boards.
IMHO, the coloration of your knife is much nicer than the Camillus.
IIRC, they were pretty expensive and were some of the last remaining stock in some stores.
They were apparently not fast sellers.

Thanks for the compliment and info, Dale! I've never had one of the Camillus knives in hand, but I do like the dark green color on the circuit board I have. However, it might have been a good idea to have taken royals advice. The fact is the circuit contacts on this board were originally silvered, but when I glued them to the liners, some of the glue squeezed out through the holes and I had to sand through to the copper getting it off. DUH! I do like the looks of the copper and green together, but without the silvering, the copper may turn green over time. Nothing to loose sleep over, but if I want to maintain the silver color, it will require a different approach then I took on this one.
