Re: Queen's new website
I see Queen finally has their new website done. Looks pretty good.
Thanks for pointing this out. Some interesting stuff: first tactical, linen micarta, factory specials etc. I am partculary glad to see they are continuing the collaboration with Joe Pardue. These are my Q/Pardue's so far"

Thanks Triple. I think the Q/Pardue's are some of the best slippies out there along with the earlier Dan Burke pieces.. And Queen should become even more interesting as new handle materials are introduced.

Well, it is a website. From what I was able to read, at least they seem to have fixed the spelling errors. That's an improvement right there.lxplumm wrote:I see Queen finally has their new website done. Looks pretty good.
Queen seems to have again made a deliberate choice to not have someone competent (professional or amateur) do their design work. Given the nature of knife sales today, a website is a necessity for companies. It is the modern equivalent of a catalog or sales brochure. Judging from the design, they are giving it all the attention of an in-house newsletter.
It certainly doesn't inspire me to consider the purchase of any of their knives.

Re: Queen's new website
I wasn't impressed with their new web site but that will have zero impact on any purchase decision I might make. You (the royal you) can't buy off their web site anyway so how is the design of the site relevant?

Re: Queen's new website
Despite all the problems I've had with Queen, I'm a motivated buyer. But I won't buy without further information.
I went to the page for three reasons. I wanted to check out the coke bottles I've been hearing about. I wanted to see if they've managed to fix the problems with the "Mountain Man" models. I wanted to see what their current warranty is. (I wouldn't mind learning what hardness they claim to temper their D2 to, either, but that isn't a deal breaker at this point.) I got none of that information.
All of that information may be there. Unfortunately, there is no way to tell: too much of the text is illegible due to a poor font selection projected onto photos, compounded by the manner in which the photos are presented.

The site may look good, but my experiences with the 'owners' are horrible.

Hi can you elaborate on your negative experiences? I just hate to see negatives posted without some detail as to why. If you bought defective or sub par knives, did Queen not make things right?IMBand wrote:The site may look good, but my experiences with the 'owners' are horrible.

I too would appreciate a PM since apparently Queen has made some deeply offensive errors. Though may I suggest it might be better to post your reasons here, publically so to speak, since you posted your criticisms here. Thanks IM

Yes, I can send you a PM.......but it wasn't exactly my intent to highjack here and I should have kept my
comments to just my thoughts on the new website, so apologies to the OP.

Thanks Jody! I'm sure that one was very nice. What is the length of the knife? The blade steel? The cover materials?Jody744 wrote:The coke bottles are very nice!!! Ken Daniels had one

And have they changed their warranty to something meaningful?
This is the kind of information I sought on the webpage, and was unable to locate.

Re: Queen's new website
Thanks for posting that, Jody. Since I got a couple questions about what I meant previously, I'll use it as an example to explain what I meant when I previously wrote, ". . .too much of the text is illegible due to a poor font selection projected onto photos. . ."
If you look across the top, where it says "REBIRTH OF A LEGEND!" the font is broken: as if printed with worn-out typeface. The Queen logo is equally blurred and indistinct.
The second line, "The Schatt & Morgan Keystone" is more distinct, but note how some of the letters run together, and the thinner parts of the letters (e.g., the upper and lower curves of the "S") are thin and begin to break up. In the next block of text, all of the letters are broken: pixels are missing, leaving "holes" in the form of the letters.
Drop down to the blurry "Queen Cutlery Company" logo. Everything underneath it--presumably the address or contact information?--is so broken as to be totally illegible.
In this case, the purpose of the website is seemingly to promote the products of a company. In order to do so, it is necessary to effectively communicate information about the products. If it were just the text that were indistinct, it could be argued that it was a "stylistic choice" (albeit a poor one); with the logo and contact information also being blurred and indistinct, it seems more a lack of competency in graphic/website design.

Re: Queen's new website
I guess I am rather picky. Before making a purchase, I really want to know the size of their knives, the steels used, and what their warranty actually consists of. The first two questions are ones I have anytime I am considering a knife purchase from any manufacturer; the third is a result of past experience with their "warranty."brucegodlesky wrote:picky picky picky... still the best made factory slipjoints in the USA!
Sorry if that seems unreasonable. I'm not a local who can just ask my buddies at the factory questions about the knives, or drop off a knife to get it repaired when it wasn't made right in the first place.
As for your claim that they are "still the best made factory slipjoints in the USA!", if that is true it is a sad commentary on the state of knife manufacturing in the US.

Queen produces way too many poorly finished knives and a lot of AAPK members have not been satisfied with their
service after the sale.

Re: Queen's new website
Simply a personal observation. I've had no trouble with any of the Queen knives I've bought. I'm especially pleased with the S&Ms. The newer Queens I've bought are equal to or better than the equivalent Case knives I have. Sorry y'all have had trouble but it hasn't washed up on my shores.
I will say their web site could use a make over by GoDaddy but first GoDaddy needs to fix the VA web site and our local Library's web site.
