RARE CASE TESTED 2228EO EASY OPEN Long Pull

Post by zp4ja »

Alright all you Easy Open fans, here is a rare one for you!

CASE TESTED 2228EO "Tear Drop Jack" with Easy Open and Long Pull. Only offerd in CASE TESTED era. Based on price lists I have, not in the 1924' list but in the 1934' price lists. Never made in any other CASE era or year, best I can tell.

This one might have been cleaned, can't tell. Appears not to have been since the inside has some very minor crust or pitting. If you look at the mainblade, something is on the blade on the exposed closed area. Does not look like gassing to me. This handle material is stable. Anyway, pics show what I mean. I have taken similar junk off a blade with 3000 grit before on an EDC, but I offer my knives as is. Up to the next owner.

Incredible audible half stops and open/close snap. No handle pin cracks or chips. Crisp stamp. One minor ding in the mainblade edge about 1/2" from the tip. Looks like someone try to use the blade as a tool to twist something, but is very minor when view thru a loop looking down on the knife edge. Could be sharpened out if someone was to try, I sure as hell would not and would leave as is, just me.

RARE CASE TESTED Easy Open in pretty damn good shape!

$325 plus shipping. All, you don't get a knife like this for cheap on ebay. If so, not in this condition. Theis is a rare knife! Additional pics if seriously interested.

Regards, Jerry

Appreciate the inquiry MB.

Here is the advisement you requested. No offense intended but are you looking at the knife I posted? So the CASE running C portion looks good? So someone only dremeled the "TESTED XX" portion of the stamp? The only knife I know of that had the CASE TESTED Running C stamp WITHOUT the "TESTED XX" included is a rare TESTED CASE 6111-1/2L. The TESTED XX portion of the stamp in question is about 1/16" inch tall or slightly less. Would be pretty hard to do with a dremel. No trailing dots and looks deep to me. Not sure what you are seeing.

STAMP is SOLID and Authentic best I can tell. I stand by that! Any other members have any input in this regard, I would love to to hear it.

I throughly look at my knives with a loupe before I offer them for sale. If I have any doubt. I will not offer it for sale.

BTW, this knife was not posted in the "Counterfeit Forum", but in the Advertisement Section. A polite PM would have been a nice alternative to your post. If I had in fact agreed with your assessment/concern via PM, I would pull the knife Immediately! If I disregarded your PM and it was in fact a fake, by all means, call me out! I do not sell any knives in question as far as authenticity. If I have doubt I don't sell it or I post for input. Search my posts and my actions speak to this.

This frame was only made in TESTED era so there is no CASE XX 2228EO to shave and dremel to a TESTED 2228EO. SO where does that leave us. Do the math!

I look forward to your reply. Regards, Jerry

Here sir is the reply you l@@k so forward to..
WR Case (especially in those days) would
never allow a stamp out like that one..
Clic yer pic #1 . .. then ENLARGE IT
in the TESTED XX portion.....
The (T)'s dont even match. . .
The (X)'s dont even match..
The (D) is leaning like a cursive font
The (E)'s arent even blocked.....
and the (S) looks more like a 80's Z . . .

surely youre not suggesting this is CASE quality
or even close to an original CASE stamp??? ???

plse advise .. .

Yes. I am not suggesting anything. That is what I am saying. Or even close to an original stamp you say, PLEASE!!!

Thanks for the enlarge pic suggestion but I have the knife in hand under loupe to look at.

So how does the "knive read" overall? The long pull nick incorrect? Blade shape good? Swedge look correct? Pins or EO notch out of place? Shield look OK? Backsprings look right? Handles look the era and correct? Any other manufacturers of this knive that someone could fake it with?

Many TESTED and prior era stamps are not deep or crisp. I know you have alot of CASE knives. You mean to tell me that even on the worn TESTED knives that all have crisp clear stamps even if they were mint? I disagree.

Thanks TJ and Chet for the input. Real nice knife Chet!

I strongly disagree with the following, but hey, everyone is entiltled to their opinion.
MrBlister wrote: WR Case (especially in those days) would

I personally am more suspect of a TESTED knife that has a "perfect stamp". Pre TESTED knives, the stamps are often crude in quality but authentic nonetheless. That is not to say that CASE knives of these timeframes are not high quality, they in fact are in my opinion. This is where "reading the entire knife" is critical to authenticity verification.
To say "would never allow a stamp out like that one" is incorrect in my opinion. CASE was very frugal as we all know and never threw anything away that could be used in the future, for example. So if a 1972' 8 dot stamped blade was laying around in 1974', it was put on a knife not tossed in the trash.

In the TESTED era, I assume all tang stamp dies were hand made, not by some machine. Maybe I am wrong. Point is that we all have seen stamps made from chipped dies, not struck straight on (maybe the left side of the stamp hit first), off center stamps, and double strikes. I have one or 2 double struck CASE knives, one is a 71' 5111-1/2LSSP Cheetah. Not deep the first time so they hit it again and not in the same spot. They did not toss it due to the soft first strike. look around at some old pre TESTED knives, some have the first or last letter of the stamp right on the edge of the tang. Some even have same letters partially cut off by the tang edge in pre TESTED. The quality of the older stamps were far from perfect.

Here is a good example of CASE frugality. This is an authenthic stamp. Just not struck perfectly flat to the blade. Looks like it hit lower left hand corner first possibly. The just didn't throw away blades back in the day if the stamp was not perfect. I posted in the Counterfeit Forum to be sure. I screwed up and posted as a TESTED 6246R instead of a 3246R, which it is. Every aspect of the knife read fine, except initially the stamp in my eyes. Looked good but wanted input.

Enough said. My ad has been derailed enough. Regards, Jerry

They never threw away blades that weren't perfect... It seems to me like every era had messed up tang stamps closest to best I've seen was XX years

Just my 2 cents, but once magnified you can see the rub marks on the tang from opening and closing. The tang stamp imperfections follow those lines. If the knife had been used more, I believe it would have been worn down enough to to reveal a near perfect tang stamp.

I dont know that much about it, but i thought
case would have used the same font in "tested xx"
The letters t, e, and x dont match each other?

I spoke with a couple of experts on this knife. They agreed with my description, "Rare, authentic and a great example". Not sold but pulled and not for sale. Thanks for looking. Not lowering the price on this knife. Just for fun, if someone sees another for sale, please let me know. Not too many out there.

Do your own read on the knife. This knife is legit. Read the entire knife, then the stamp. Price lowered $100 to $225 plus shipping. Rare knife.

I stand by the fact this knife is authentic!
