Identification> No Name Fixed Blade?

Post by TripleF »

Scored this bad boy in a lot and I'm thinking I'll use it as a mini machete.....

Does anybody know anything about this knife? I can find no markings......except for what appears to be a left facing arrow near the tang area..

[album][/album] That's a "bad-boy" alright. An E.G. Waterman if ever I seen one. They manufacture from San Diego, California. They experiment with different alloys, grip materials, lengths or widths, and often don't put markings. The "blade with bottle opener" in the tang was patented ( not by E.G.W.) but by Bassett Jewelry Co. (Providence, R.I.) May 18, 1909. Boker generally made the "skeleton" in their New Jersey factory and Bassett finished by adding the handles. It is common for makers to infringe on patent designs as long as they don't get caught. See the unmarked knife in this picture that I included. Seems by the plastic and aluminium guard and pommel to be a Kinfolk? Any comments are greatly appreciated though!

I don't believe it is a Waterman;the blade grind is flat(the Waterman is only ground halfway down the blade)and the fuller on the Waterman is much longer. Also the Waterman knives I've seen(I own one)have a differently shaped handle and there is no pommel;just a flat piece of steel on the end with the tang protruding slightly and a pin holding everything together. This was a flaw of the Waterman knives as the pin usually broke and the handle fell off in pieces. Here are a couple pics of mine.
