Linder Crown Stag Bowie Knives

Hey all,

I was wondering if anyone could enlighten me on Linder Bowies knives. I am interested in making a deal with a friend for one of these but do not have a clue of the value. I am awaiting actual pics from him but here is one from Ebay is very close to the one I am considering. The pics should be here tomorrow I hope and will post at that time. Is this a knife that might be of any value at all????

bonehead: Just a couple of thoughts. I take it no cutler's name is associated with the design of this. So I am going to presume this is a production model. Can you discover how many were made?

My thinking is that if a production Bowie is going for hundreds of dollars there had better be something special. Perhaps rarity,perhaps materials. Or great demand. The old Camillus OVB Bowies were production but in limited numbers and were designed by Jerry Fisk. I consider a few hundred dollars appropriate for those Bowies. So too with the Bill Bagwell reproductions.

Perhaps the knife you are interested in is very sought after in Europe. I have no idea, but I would encourage you to spend some time researching. Especially if you are planning on using the blade you will want to find out if it has a healthy size tang. Inspect your friend's knife very carefully looking for any fine cracks or chips in the handle.

So, if you satisfy yourself as to its quality, like it and can afford it then go for it and enjoy.

I'm hoping to get it for my brother, its not my fancy at all. He loves big knives and had a few Bowies from Ag Russell. This knife for him is like me finding a folder from early 1900 I've had it in hand, its pretty and has nice stag; seems nice but does not appear to be a knife made for using. Hope to get the pics today.. BH

several of these factory bowies were produced in the 70s & 80s ; maybe even since. mostly they are fantasy pieces. linder is of course german & not to be confused with the great english bowies from the 1800s. i believe you might be pleased with a purchase of american made replicas.---HiPower

If your brother wants a hard working Bowie you might look at Atanta Cutlery if price is an issue. Good luck in your search. There are many sources.
