March 2013 AAPK Knife Giveaway

Post by jerryd6818 »

We’re doing something a little out of the ordinary for the March giveaway. Instead of giving away one traditional folding knife, there will be two lucky winners. One will get a Kershaw Scallion and the other will get a Wenger Evolution S13 Swiss Army Knife. Both of these knives are brand new, fresh out of the box (although there's no box for the Kershaw Scallion).

Here’s how it works. The winning number will be determined, as usual, by the number drawn for the Sunday March 31st Illinois Lottery evening Pick 3 (do not confuse this with Illinois Lottery’s My 3 game).
The Illinois lottery results can be found on the following website:
http://www.illinoislottery.com/default.aspx

The number closest to the winning number, without going over, gets to choose which knife they want. The remaining knife will go to the individual who chose the closest number over the winning number.

Example: winning number is 555
Closest under and over numbers picked are 350 and 556
350 gets first choice.
556 gets the remaining knife

If someone picks the winning number on the head, the remaining knife goes to the number picked that is closest to the winning number. In case of a tie, the knife goes to the under number.

-- Sign up will close at 6:00 PM Eastern time on Sunday March 31st –

To select a number between 0 and 1000, CLICK HERE.

You must be 18 or older to play.

Good luck!

Kershaw's Scallion offers high-performance styling and all the convenience of the SpeedSafe ambidextrous assisted opening system in a medium-sized knife. It's ideal for everyday carrying. All Scallions include a secure liner lock to keep the blade securely in place until the user closes it and a Tip Lock to keep the blade stored in the handle.

• SpeedSafe Assisted Opening
• Locking Liner
• Thumb Stud
• Pocket Clip

Steel: 420HC stainless-steel
Handle: 410 blue anodized stainless-steel
Blade Length: 2 1/4 in. (5.8 cm)
Closed Length: 3 1/2 in. (8.4 cm)
Overall Length: 5 3/4 in. (14.6 cm)
Weight: 2.3 oz.

The four Xs on the pile side of the blade were put on at the factory to indicate this knife is in some way, blemished. I think I found the “blemish”. Just below the ‘W’ in Kershaw on the mark side of the handle, on the edge of the handle, there is what appears to be a small light spot in the anodizing (see picture) and that may be why it didn’t cut-the-mustard at Kershaw.

Jerry, could be the blem is the 3 holes in the blade next to the thumb stud.
My blue rapscallion don't have those but does have the same patented onion logo.
Probly them Xs just mean it's been tested twice as much as a Case. ::shrug::
With my long fingers, scallion just small enough it's hard to keep clear of that
spring loaded blade. Makes me nervous.
Think I read somewhere an owner should never be afraid of their knife. ::facepalm::

Hey Jerry

Thanks for the opportunity and for giving back to this site. ::handshake::
I would be proud to own either one of those dandys.
There's nothing wrong with that Kershaw IMO. I have two that I carry and I ain't skeered of either one of 'em.
The second one in the pic was put on a grinder by some IDIOT that I let borrow it. I got it back put the lansky to it and it'll still split hairs ::tu::

Ain't no thing my brother by another mother. Wishing everyone the luck of the Irish come March 31st.

Although... The longer I have these two knives sitting here, the more tempting it becomes to hang on to them.  ::drool:: ::drool::

The Kershaw speaks volumes on it's own but that Wenger grows on me a little more every day. Wait until the winner of the Scallion feels how quickly and smoothly that hair splitting sharp blade deploys. Whoever wins the Wenger, best be careful they don't cut them self on that wicked sharp main blade and be sure you wear ear protection when you close the saw blade, it sounds like the blade broke the sound barrier.
