Re: GOT SHIELDS?
Great idea MB.
My favorite knives all have shields.I think some times a shield can make the knife and without it most, but not all, look to me like they are less of a knife for it.You can use a very nice shield on a good knife and make it a great knife in some cases.
They all are very nice guys, hear are a few of mine that I like.

Re: GOT SHIELDS?
I bought this one mostly because of the shield. Now that I have it, the shield is a little too big for the knife but I still like it.
The shield is nothing special on this one but I like the knife. I don't think this shield has been previously posted.

Cowboy hat shield on a 2009 Case 6254 Trapper. OH

Thanks Chief, I thought it was cool (along with the barb-wire). Jerry, your Queen's look like very, very nice quality knives. The Ward's shield appears to be a spider on a web - wonder what that was signifying? OH

Re: GOT SHIELDS?
A couple of different shields used on Battle Axe brand knives.
According to BRL, imported by J W Hickey and Tommy Shouse of Winston-Salem NC, from c1975 into the mid or late 1980s. Probably made by Olbertz.

Re: GOT SHIELDS?
Here's a nice crisp shield on an Ulster jack.
Similar shields have been posted earlier, starting with Miller Bros Empire example and then followed by three or four more.
I think this one has sharper edges and is about the best example I've seen.
This pic came off an Ebay auction today.

Re: GOT SHIELDS?
Phil -- This is Miller Bros. thread. His idea and he started it. I just contribute when I can. I hope you don't mind, your picture was a little out of focus so I grabbed a picture of the shield from another place (GEC web site), flipped it and cropped it down. Neat shield, eh?

Phil, that one most likely would fall under the "Double-Finned Bomb" category.
KaBoom!
Or, going out on a limb here, it might be called a "Short Heavy Dagger Shield".

Re: GOT SHIELDS?
Phil, not that I am aware of.philco wrote:Does that particular shield shape have a name ?
Very rarely are shields identified by a name in the old knife catalogs other than "scout" shield, "bar" shield" etc. Most all the names we now use were given by collectors.
