Case model 49 w/ stag handles?

Post by lonestarjeff »

Bryan:
I recently picked up what appears to be a pre-'64 case xx 4" jack knife w/ stag handles. It has a clip master blade & a pen blade, front & rear bolsters. There is no model # stamp, but your reference list makes it out to be a 49.

Was wondering if you can confirm Case made such a beast. It has the correct shield(tall S) & tang stamp ("case" over "xx").

If you need a pic, let me know, I'll take another shot at posting one.

Thanks,
Jeff

Hi Jeff,

By stag, are you refering to bone stag or genuine stag? I don't think Case made a 49 in genuine stag prior to 1964. If you have a picture to post that would be great.

Looks like a genuine 5299 pattern to me. I attached your picture along with a picture of an 8249 for comparison. Among a few other small things, the 49 is slimmer and the front bolster is shaped different.
