As Jonet says.....

"Sometimes the cutting edge is NOT the place to be!"

A couple of night ago, I was sitting in my favorite easy chair doing something or other that required a knife. I was using one of my favorites, a Parker-Edwards razor trapper. Like a real dummy, I closed the blade one handed and wouldn't you know it....the razor blade, being exceptionally sharp of course and having great "walk and talk"....lopped off the pad of my right middle finger! ::dang::

I take Coumadin for a heart problem and I immediately began bleeding like a stuck hog. Finally, after applying a compress and some steady pressure, I got it to stop bleeding. Talk about feeling really STUPID! Not like I didn't know better....just one of those really bad lapses of attention and good sense. ::doh::

They couldn't take a finger print of that finger if they wanted to! I looked around after the dust settled and found the finger pad wedged down in the blade liner. YIKES! ::mdm::

My appologies to Mr Rogers, but "Can you say ouch? I think you can."

I am glad you got the bleeding stopped. That is really no laughing matter on Coumadin. My wife takes it too. So far we haven't had anything like that happen, but she sure bruses easily.

Don't feel bad, I have done the same thing.

Coumadin users that is a mean drug. It is rat poison and you also have to be very carefull what other drugs you take with it.
Allways ask Dr. if you can before even takeing over the counter drugs.

One thing you can use to clean your knife is Hydrogen Peroxide, it will clean any left over blood in it. Blood will stain steel. Then oil it.

I know this has not a thing to do with knife collecting but it might be helpfull.

Dream Dr.....?

I want to be a gynecologist

With my office in a Holiday Inn Express.

My name would be Dr. Jecky.

I would make House calls for an extra charge.

I would need a S&M Dr.'s MOP knife.

Sorry to hear that DEWMAN, but since were on the subject, i can tell you what happened to me about 3 weeks ago. Having been inspired by a podcast on the forum to promote our hobby by giving a knife to a kid, i did just that. I gave a 12 year old a small BUCK trapper and as soon as i turned around, he cut a deep gash in his finger by trying to open both blades at the same time! Well after we stopped the bleeding his mom said thanks anyway and gave me the knife back! I felt terrible. Next time i'll just give away a book or magazine

giving a young person a knife requires teaching fundamentals of safety. and permission from parent. ::dang:: while this won't prevent all accidents, it will help instill responcibility, gift giver anf receiver.

When I gave my (then 8 year old) grandson his first knife, a Camillus Cub Scout knife, it came with a 20 minute talking to about knife safety and care.

When I gave him his second knife, a new in clampack 34OT, I told him it was carbon steel. To which he asked, "So, I oil the joints on this one too?"

I was sure proud of him. He is a real go getter, fast moving kid, but he had really listened when I told him about knives the year before.

You guys are right. I did have parents permission and his mom said he had owned a pocketknife before. I was wrong in assuming he knew the basics of knife safety. Won't make that mistake again! Thanks for taking it easy on me. I did a pretty good job of verbaly abusing myself ::dang::
