What's your favorite SAK?

Josh -- Because it's orange, that's the only reason I'm interested in it. (For some reason, I'm on an orange kick here lately.) That and I think it would be neat to have an ALOX.

I only have (I think) two little advertising Vic's and a couple of larger Wengers. For some reason, they just don't get my motor runnin'.

Well, with a couple of days EDC I will tell you this - for my normal daily needs "small and thin" are perfect attributes - the main blade is as big, or bigger, than the 3-3/8" stockman and jackknives I normally EDC. The knife is not as stout as the US Imperial and Camillus issue knives from the 1960's and 1970's, which the Cadet seems to mimic, but my impression is that it is a nicely scaled down version. I looked up the ALOX Pioneer on-line, I may have to get my hands on one - slightly bigger than the Cadet would be fine, but not too much bigger. When I want a much heavier knife I carry a big folder or fixed blade in a sheath on my belt. The ALOX Cadet is a gentleman's EDC -occasional use over the course of the day for opening boxes, packages, cutting strings off your clothes, etc., (I scrapped drywall mud off my shirt sleeve with it yesterday). You;re right, the cadet is a gentleman's edc knife. I have one, and it's okay, but a little too thin and light for me. I edc a Vic pioneer pretty often, and it's a strong knife, well capable of handling any edc job you come across. The Wenger SI is the equal opposite member from Wenger, and it's a great carry knife as well. I think the Vic pioner is a better made knife than the Camillus issue knife we had when I was in the service. The Camillus made knife had a nasty tendency to break back springs.

In case you don't see it in General Topics, I was bombed with an orange Alox Cadet today by junebug and I'm not only thrilled but impressed. I was right when I said it looks kind of thin in pictures BUT as I was fondling it (it's such a neat knife, I can't stop grinning like a possum) I started reviewing the uses I've put a knife to over my life and decided this 3-3/8" beauty would hold up just fine to the kind of daily use I would put it to. Am I going to carry it? Uh, no. It was a gift and I'm going to leave it lay on my desk here by my computer and admire it several times a day. Can you tell? I really like it a lot.

So what's my favorite SAK. Well, right now, this one is.

June, my user ODG Cadet is on earlier page in use
as substitute door knob. Definitely looking pocket worn.
Cadet fits most watch pockets and thinness still allows
access to main pocket. I use screwdriver tips, cap lifter
and file as much if not more than blade. Cap lifter tip
stout enough for use as small pry bar. Like opening
paint cans. Lots of uses in 3.25" size.

Jerry, few years ago after the previous colored cadets
were apparently dropped and dealer's stock was depleted
some of them were bringing $50-100 in the 'Bay. I could
barely believe it. Tim, the feline vet Sak man had some
bright orange Cadets as new release. Lot more hunter
orange than the original golden orange. Seen it yet?
Before original orange there was a copper alox but I haven't seen one.

For years I carried Tinkers with the keyring ground off. Now it's the Orange Alox Farmer. For those that like the Cadet you should check out Swiss Bianco's Cadet Plus. It adds a handy saw blade.

If so, must be similar to switching from
a 22087 Jack to a 63087 stockman which
is a noticeable difference in the pocket.

This is a sak Mechcanic. I bought it at a flea market and sent it to sak repair (a $5 charge) They repaired it and this is how it turned out. This is my new edc. ftd

Large blade tip was broke off and small blade was bent. The handles were broke on the ends and the whole knife had a gummy residue on it. they replced the blades and cleaned it and put new handles on it. The charge was for shipping, no charge for any repairs. ftd

Found this blue farmer/light stick set on sale online that
was priced about same as blue farmer by itself which was
out of stock. Lucky me



Few years ago while Christmas shopping on Amazon found
the old style FPR soldier with a SAK book on sale for
few bucks less than other sites wanted just for the book.
Even had free shippin'.
Must be true the Lord watches over children & fools
Since I'm over 18 easy to see where that leaves me.

On the Victronox web site their is a form that you can print and send with the knife. This will help them to see what is broken and will be able to fix it. They will use new parts, my mechanic was one of the first ones made and had their old symble on the tang of the blade. They replaced all the old parts with new ones. I organily paid $2.50 for the knife and have less than $10 in it . ftd

These are the only two Victorinox knives that I have, both are ad knives. The Rose Acre Farms Good Egg knife was in a knife lot I won a few years back but the CSX "lobster" was given to me about 25 years ago by my uncle. I keep my gun case keys on it and one of those military can openers, I'm sure one of you guys know its correct name. Both knives have extremely durable steel.

I don't know if you're serious or not but it's a P-38. There's a larger model designated P-51.

I have my Dad's P-38 that he was issued in 64. One of my most cherished possessions.
