Using blades from a different knife

I'm hoping some of you fellows with more experience can help me out. I have a couple of older scout knives that I would like to restore sometime that the main blades will have to replaced on and I am trying to scrounge up some replacements from other knifes that I have.

I know the blade tang has to be thinner than the spring, I measured some leftover sets of blades and springs from other knives I've restored and I'm seeing about a .005" difference between the tang thickness and the spring thickness. What is the maximum allowable difference in thickness between the blade tang and spring thickness?

What other dimensions on the donor blade should I be checking vs. the original bade?

just match the tangs up with ones that look the same. If you have any particular ones I have a lot of scout blades maybe I have a correct replacement blade to fit your knife.

MM here are pic's of the two knives. If you have some replacement blades for these it would be much appreciated.


The tang thickness of the top one in the pic's is .093 and the bottom one is .090
