Bear and Son Knives

Hi everyone and an early Happy New Year

I was talking to a friend yesterday who was telling me about a Bear and Co. trapper that he has. It's a damascus with bone stag handles. Anbody out there got any experience with these. I can get these from my wholesaler but even there they are a little pricy if they aren't high quality. They look really nice, Just wondering if they are a good knife.

Jeff,
Are you referring to Bear and son Jacksonville, Alabama?
If so I have three peanuts fom Bear MGC,the old tang stamp. I really like them and think the fit and finish is great. I don't often hear much talk about them, so I don't know if they are popular with collectors or not.

Hey There
I feel Bear MGC or Son's now are very good quality knives for the money
I have carried a Bear damascus side-liner for abour 2 years with no problem at all. Besides, it is gettin down rite hard to get any value & made in USA anymore. I say support those Alabama folk's !!!

I live near the Bear & Sons factory. It's an extremely small operation that opens it's doors 1 a year to the public. They mostly sell the discontinued & seconds material at that yearly sale & I have bought several pieces of their cutlary. Their second Damascus Blanks are better than many custom shop top shelf stuff. I love their carbon damascus but their stainless damascus is beautiful stuff as well.

I'm really glad someone posted on this. I didn't know anything about this brand but based on the prices I see them bringing on ebay, I assumed they were Chinese manufacture, or something like that.

I believe I'll git one!

Chris Kirk has been having them alot on his televised knife show. Usually at lower prices. I have three peanuts as I have said in an earlier post and think they are well made. The fit and finish is excellent. I do not know how good their steel is as I have never used them. They are first production runs from the early 90's.
