B4*ANY Knife

Post by Shadowspawn »

First post but big fan of the site. A segue back to a previous post regarding a Sheffield, U.K. nautical knife. Brand is B4*ANY. Has a marlinspike on one side and a blade and what appears to be a tool for cutting and mending nets on the other. The knife was found after an old house was demo'd. It was once used regularly, you can tell that someone spent time keeping the blade sharp. Body is steel but both sides have a facing of what appears to be some old version of high impact plastic. Anyone have an idea as to value? Been laid off seven months and am starting to look closely at items I used to hold dear.

::welcome:: to the site.

The B4*Any trademark was used by Fred Ward & Co. circa 1856-1883.

So the knife you have is probably pretty old. We are going to need pictures before we can go any farther along :wink:

Just wanted to thank Miller Bro's, Jerryd6818, Triple F, and Chetr1200c. The link to the picture of the B4*ANY knife that sold for $42.00 is the exact same one I found in the wreckage of grandparents home. Did some family research and turns out the knife once belonged to a great uncle from New York who was a longshoreman or stevedore. Noone knows where my great uncle got it from. Looks like there is one less thing I can sell. By the way, I was told that old Swiss Army bayonets where a dime a dozen. I bought one for $20 almost thirty years ago and was hoping it's value had increased. I don't do much communication via the internet and just realized that the name Shadowspawn sounds a little gay now a days. It was a character of mine in Dungeons and Dragons around the time I bought the bayonet. Might have to change my handle. ( ps. the use of the word "gay" was purely a slang usage, no offense intended )

Just found out that there are tons of different Swiss Army bayonets. Found the one I own at http://www.ebay.com/itm/swiss-sweden-ww2-bayonet fighting knife for $80. Don't know how to make a link, sorry. Does $80 sound like a fair amount or is this item worth more to the right person?

chetr1200c, thanks brother that is exactly what I have but don't know a thing about it. Bought it when I was a teenager because I was told it was a WW2 relic. It is in nearly perfect condition, only one tiny nick in the blade down near the hilt. May never have been used, who knows. Looks like one is selling on ebay for $80. Is this an average value for this knife?

He has that one on a "buy-it-now" for $80, I doubt if it will sell.

I have one of these somewhere and paid very little for it. If I remember right one of these places like Smokey Mountain knife works was selling these for around $10 each ::uc::

I know they were dirt cheap and they probably bought a tractor trailer load of these from Europe.

There are so many that they will probably never bring much money ::shrug::

Thanks a lot Miller Bro's, that helps a lot. Hopefully I can get back to work soon and quit selling and get back to buying! I really want to own a Confederate Cavalry sword one of these days.

thanks demitri for posting the pic....
strange thing here is, if you were to look at completed listings of this knife, one that would pop up is that one being sold. it appears that the very same one was sold back in october for $80 plus his s&h, but, has been relisted by the same seller. maybe he has a double and is using the same picture for his description of this one. or maybe the sold one has been returned for some reason. ::shrug::

edit..looking at the sellers individual pics of the bayonet, one can see that the knife being sold has the serial number of 107, and the one that was sold by him had the serial number of 234....hence, two different and identical bayonets. :mrgreen:
