Schrade Walden Whittler

Post by Shearer »

I was looking at this knife and the tang stamp looked wrong.It look like It was cleaned and re-stamped the Y on New York seems to be wrong ( plus some of the other letters ). The first picture is of a Schrade Walden tang stamp. The second is of the knife in question.

I turned your pic vertical

to better compare it to this pic of an 8OT stamp Keith posted some time ago.

They look pretty much the same to me, though the dots between letters are less visible in the 8OT.
I have come to expect variances between stamps. Every company had thousands of them and they would have likely come from different makers over the years, so I think we have to make allowances.

I don't think that is an expensive enough knife for someone to go to all the expense to make a stamp to counterfeit it. The stamp would cost more than he sold the knife for.

Just my thoughts. ::shrug::

Dale I put the first knife as an example of the tang stamp the second photo is of the knife in Question. To me it looks like it was cleaned and they re-stamped some of the letters ( the S in Schrade , Y in New York )

The stamp looks good to me, the knife looks legit. But it has been cleaned, especially that main blade, which may be why the stamp looks the way it does.

Then again, what the heck do I know? :oops:

FYI the knife in question is mine :) I certainly never buffed it or hardly used it. I bought it from respectable member of this forum and a knowledgeable collector who definitely hadn't buffed it either. It is my limited photographic ability that cause the look of the knife.
