Be very careful, that is about the size of my Buck family 18 months ago! Nice collection - your 301 is an early version of the Buck mfg 301 - you have the flat ground blades (I like them that way). OH

OH - thanks, I had never given much thought to the 301 before but I was reading some knife tales on another forum and many of them were of the Buck 301, so I thought i should get one, found this one and love it, I am really getting attached to it. Its great in my pocket. Feels like a part of me. On my shield it says B U C K, Is that what it says on your shield?

I spent much time in Eastern NC - Camp Lejeune, Cherry Point, started college at ECC. Then later was at Ft Bragg. I have friends there and my Drill Instructor lives around there. He is a good friend to. Were you Army or Marine?

Ken, that Buck 301 you have is a late 1980's (87 if I am seeing the code properly) the BUCK shield was only used a few years in the late 1980's - your knife has the flat ground blades too. All of my Buck 301 knives have the traditional knife/bolt/hammer shield (I have a late 60's by Schrade, a 1970 by Camillus, and a 2012 by Buck in Idaho). Speaking of Idaho, I notice that your 310 Whittler has the 2005 Idaho state map tang stamp on the small blades - that was done only in 2005 to commemorate the move to Idaho from California. You have a couple of nice knives there!

I was a member of the NC ARNG for 32-1/2 years. I am from Greenville (J.H. Rose in 73 and ECU in 77). Been selling building materials to the bases in eastern NC for 34 years (there are 12 military bases here, 11 DOD and 1 USCG - most are a part of greater Fort Bragg or greater Camp Lejeune).
