Re: BOMBS AWAY!!! THE UN-OFFICIAL OFFICIAL BOMB THREAD
Well I have gotten a few bombs lately. After posting a few pics of my knives I reworked I received these 2 knives, a Camillius 4 line toothpick and John Primble hunter with a set of scales from WelderBob. Then I had a knife in a lot I was selling and thought he might be interested in. I sent him the knife and he said he would send payment and a knife book. Wow, got 4 books, 6 copies of KnifeWorld, and 3 sets of scales. WelderBob is one hell of a standup guy.
Thanks Bob

Re: BOMBS AWAY!!! THE UN-OFFICIAL OFFICIAL BOMB THREAD
NEWS FLASH TripleF guilty of bombing LA(lower Alabama)!!!!!
Scott recently posted a picture of an old Colonial advertising knife that had been stamped Northrup King Seeds. I told him we used to plant NK hybrid corn seed. And the next thing I knew , I had been bombed! Thanks for the special knife and other "goodies". Here's evidence of the bombing, resting in a tub of open pollinated field corn (some of you country boys know what I'm talking about).
Thanks Scott, Christmas came early to the Florida panhandle!

Re: BOMBS AWAY!!! THE UN-OFFICIAL OFFICIAL BOMB THREAD
Hey Scott or Treefarmer..I like that little "Case collector's pocket guide" card in that picture, that's pretty cool. I'd like to get ahold of a couple of those...one for myself and one to give to my nephew who I'm getting into Case collecting..looks like a pretty handy little card. Where could a fella get ahold of a couple of those?
I googled it up and looked on the 'bay and didn't find anything...where did you get ahold of yours?
thanks,
Mike

Great knives fellers, and awesome bombs.
Tree farmer I like that picture of the knife and the corn. What variety is it? We used to raise a variety of open pollinated corn here called Hickory Cane. Man it got tall. We used it for everything from sweet corn, to hominy, to livestock feed. Soe called it 8 row corn too.

Re: BOMBS AWAY!!! THE UN-OFFICIAL OFFICIAL BOMB THREAD
So there ya go. That's what my grandfather grew and we too used it for everything under the sun. I always thought the name was 'Hickory Cane' until I bought a small bag at an old hardware store about ten or twelve years ago in Birmingham AL. The package was labeled 'Hickory King'. Well now, that confused me so I did a little research and found this. It's good to find my memory's not faulty.Colonel26 wrote:We used to raise a variety of open pollinated corn here called Hickory Cane.
"Description of Hickory Cane Corn.
Hickory Cane (not Hickory King) corn was a favorite of old timers and was prized as a sweet corn, creamed corn, grits, hominy and particularly for white corn meal. It makes outstanding Cornbread! Hickory Cane produces a very tall (sometimes up to 12' or more) stalk which supports the height well. It produces very large ears with large white kernels in eight rows. It is fairly drought resistant and stays green much longer than today's sweet corn. It is open pollinated and should not be planted near other varieties (at least one mile isolation). Grown for Fodder originally on the farm for feed and used in cooking Corn Meal, Hominy, and Grits."

Re: BOMBS AWAY!!! THE UN-OFFICIAL OFFICIAL BOMB THREAD
Colonel26, The corn is 4 varieties that are open pollinated. I only know the name of one, Dixie 18. An old Minnonite farmer grew this mixture on our place a couple of years ago. He told me all the names of the corn and his logic for such a mix. I salvaged enough that was knocked down by the picker to plant a couple of acres for a food plot. An intresting side note is that our old friend said as a youth when they had a corn shucking, if you found a solid red ear you got to kiss your sweet heart. I found enough red ears to plant 10 rows, isolated, and they yeilded about 50% red ears. We will try it again next spring and see if we can eventually get all red corn. Our old friend was 87 years old when he went home to be with the Lord a couple of months ago. There are so many questions that I never took the time to ask. Treefarmer
