Large Colonial Lock Blade Knife - Please Help Me Identify It

A friend owns this, but I asked to borrow it to take photos of it as it seems to be quite old, and fairly rare?
If any of you can shed any light on this I would appreciate it. I suspect it might have been made in the forties?
The blade has minimum wobble, and the lock is tight.
Nothing has been done to clean it up, and it is in as found condition.

Somebody, just the last week or so, posted a picture of a whole wad of those knives from an estate sale. Seems like they were WW2 Navy survival pocket knives. BonfireBob is the Colonial expert, he should be along with some good info. Treefarmer

treefarmer has the correct answer for you, the posters id was mountainman. it is a ww2 navy pilots survival knife. the knife certainly is a handful and usually came along with a cordura webbed sheath. it also came grouped together with a few over survival items, including binoculars. i have seen them with the bail and also with a sheepsfoot style saw blade. this one here is mine and is the most common. i would like to hear the story from bob also

i posted the question to him in the colonial collectors forum. thats the place he most often visits
