Picked it up at a collector store for $5.00.

Tang: Official Boy Scouts Of America with Seal
Blade: 4 1/2 inches
Sheath: Original with Boy Scout's Seal on the snap.

Does anyone know about what year this knife is ?

Looks like a Western. I found this info in Ed Holbrooks book "Official Scout Blades"
The scan cut off the top line which reads:
Western States -Boulder, CO- circa 1911- present

Thanks all. Ramrod my knife looks like the first one on the page you posted. Especially the sheath with the "rope" type pattern on the leather part and the BSA seal on the snap of the sheath. I'm guessing my knife is from the late 40s or early 50s ?

The stiching on the two sheaths shown in the scan look a little different. The top one has bigger stiches than the second one. To me, it looks like yours has the smaller stiching. If I had to choose, I think your knife looks more like the second one down. Just a guess though.
I have no idea what he means by the tenderfoot stamp and the first class stamp.

Ramrod, I think you are correct. The brass hilt on my knife is longer like the second on in your photo too.

Your knife is definitely post-war, but I don't know exactly by how much; I would guess closer to 1960 than 1950. The first class logo is the fleurdelis with the be prepared banner underneath. In other words, the complete official insignia. The second class badge is missing the banner. The tenderfoot badge is just the "Be Prepared" banner with no fleurdelis. You better double check with Phil on this. Actually this thread should possibly be moved to the "All scouts" thread. Your #66 is just one pattern Western made for the Boy Scouts.

Here's a link to show the Tenderfoot and First Class emblems. They are similar but the First Class emblem has the ribbon with the "Be Prepared" motto under the eagle.

Don't know if it has any significance here, but Tenderfoot is the second rank a boy can earn as a Scout and First Class is the fourth; Tenderfoot is considered a boy having "cut his teeth" and started on the trail to Eagle (he needs to know and have demonstrated a pretty good bit just to get this far), First Class being considered a "journeyman" and about half way to Eagle Scout … here are the Boy Scout Ranks in order: Scout, Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star Scout, Life Scout, Eagle Scout.

Draac, can you get a shot of the mark on the back-side of the blade? Currently I've only got one BSA-marked Western (like the bottom knife in the pic Ramrod posted); given the limited run of that pattern, we might get some information comparing the stamps.

When I blew up Dracc's second photo I could see the Tenderfoot stamp. It's a little hard to see but it's right there beside the rest of the tang stamp. Based on the information posted in Official Scout Blades by Ed Holbrook, as posted here on this thread by Ramrod, it would appear that this knife was made by Western Boulder Colorado between 1960 and 1970. The stamp matches up and so does the longer hilt.

Sorry the backisde is too pitted to read whatever is there. I could try to clean it but I don't think that would be good for the value of the knife.
