Prayer request for Kevin

There are times in each of our lives that rain falls, hard times come and it helps to reach out to our friends and to our God for a little support. This is the place to express those needs, concerns and situations so others in the AAPK family can keep you in their prayers.

Prayer request for Kevin

Post by orvet »

I got a call from my third daughter this evening. She asked if I could put her fiancé, Kevin, on our church prayer chain. I said sure & I can put him on AAPK as well!

It seems Kevin had a couple swollen lymph nodes under his arm. Since Yolonda, my daughter is in school now for Medical Aid she told him to go to the doctor and have it checked out. He went to the doctor this week and they put him in the hospital. His white blood count was 0.8 instead of 4.0 for a healthy person. They have been running tests and it appears he has leukemia.

He is still in the hospital and will remain there until his white blood cell count goes up. There is great danger of infection apparently.

Please pray for healing for Kevin.

Thanks guys!

I got a call from my daughter this evening.
She said they got the test results back; Kevin has Acute Myeolin Leukemia, which they told her is one of the most aggressive forms of leukemia.
The survival rate through the chemo therapy to remission is about 40%, according to what my daughter said, and the survival rate after 5 years is 19%.

The good thing is that they caught it really early. The docs started chemo therapy today.

My daughter is naturally pretty upset. Kevin is her dream guy. She had pretty bad experiences with her ex and Kevin treats her so good he is like a dream come true for her.

Please continue to pray for both of them.

Thank you,
Dale

Dale-

God is indeed the Great physician. He can do anything. And on earth, He's made some fantastic doctors and the like to help Him.

Consider this, my wife was diagnosed with AML (same leukemia mentioned earlier) and those same stat numbers were given to us. However, they caught it early in my wife, and she's 100 percent in remission, and beyond that, she's got a high chance, high high chance, of living through it, because she had a stem cell transplant. She now runs after her 18 month daughter (she was diagnosed while pregnant.)

Please have your loved ones look at:

bethematch.org

It saved my wife's life. She got a transplant and now has new marrow making blood, all the old is gone, and the new has come! Praise God.

Your family will be on my prayer list, and God can beat this!

Thank you for your continued prayers.
I have not talked to my daughter for several days as she is busy working and with school.
She is finishing her Medical Assistant or Medical Aid training (I can't remember which it is). She is just about ready to graduate.

I did talk to another of my daughters yesterday and she said as far as she knew Kevin is still in the hospital undergoing intensive chemo. He is pretty weak but in good spirits considering.

We do appreciate your continued prayers for Kevin.

I spoke to my daughter, Yolonda, this evening.
Kevin has been home for the past 3 weeks and going in to the hospital for treatments.
He has one more week at home and then he undergoes chemo in preparation for the bone marrow transplant. The problem is that he still has some remaining fungal infection in his lungs. The doctors are concerned that when they do the chemo and his immune system is at its weakest that the infection may flair up, which could be fatal.

Please pray for both Kevin and Yolonda. When I spoke to her this evening she sounded exhausted. It has been a physical and emotional roller coaster for them both.

Thanks for your prayers,
Dale

My daughter called last evening.
Kevin is undergoing heavy chemo but is allowed to go home between treatments.
They are giving him blood transfusions, as his body cannot produce new blood now.
He got a transfusion Friday and at 3 AM Saturday morning he fell trying to go into the bathroom. Yolonda helped him onto the toilet where he went into convulsions. He was transported by ambulance to the hospital where he was placed in Isolation. He is very weak and having difficulty breathing. The doctors may have to put a breathing tube in to help him breathe.

Please pray that God would give him strength to endure the treatments and the ability to continue to fight the cancer.
Please pray for Yolonda that God would give her strength as she has to care for her 8 year old son and Kevin’s 12 year old daughter, plus finish her schooling and work at her job.
Also please pray for God’s grace, comfort and healing for the children as well as Yolonda & Kevin.
