Othello?

This knife was given to me and I don't know a thing about it. I tried looking it up online and I got sent to a site that had a cutlery set for sale that was made in Germany for Martin Borman or was it Himmler? It says, "Othello", then, "Solingen Germany", underneath that. On the other side there is, "G.C. Co", and under that is, "037". Maybe I found something good? If not, it was free anyway. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hey, it is a nice knife no matter what.

I believe it was made for Guttman Cutlery Company (an importer in NY) by Anton Wingen in Solingen, Germany. Looks like late 60tys-70tys.

Other folks may be able to add more.

Looks close, same design. Your stag is much nicer, stag brings a better price usually. 037 sugest that it belonged to a serial numbered set.

According to Goins', G.C. Co. is a Guttman trademark.

Bill's info is spot on!

I believe that sometime in the late 1970s or early 1980s Guttman moved their import operation to Washington state. I know they were there in the 1980s when I managed a cutlery store. Explorer was one of their brand names, made in the Far East. IIRC, at one time they imported Hen & Roster and possibly Puma too, but that is from my somewhat flawed memory.

It looks to be designed along the lines of the original Canadian Belt Knife (by D. H. Russell...made by Grohmann) shown here...

It looks just like that Canadian belt knife. It came with a tube sheath too.
