The right knife by Richard Rogers or Tony Bose.
Or, I recently came across this very interesting and stunning piece, which could belong to one of us for $3K...hope I hit that exacta at Pimlico.

Wanna drool, for hours no less. Here are a couple links with all kinds of pocket candy and eye candy. Get ready for sticker shock.

And then there is Lynn Olson, who is a member of the knife club I belong to. I haven't been in several months, first Wednesday seems to always conflict with my scedule for some reason. Also I have been taking medications hat I do not want to drive with, just learned it's called Oxycontin, aka hilbilly heroin, I guess that's a name that fits me, I'm way more hillbilly than civilized at times, just blame my roots.

Here is a design that I really like by John W. Smith. Yeah, Chanpagne tastes and near beer budget.

Twenty-four pieces of Mother of Pearl—each separated by a thin Gold spacer—paint the interframed Sun with rainbow colors. Profuse engraving with 24K Gold inlays surround the rising sun as light fills the day to reveal the morning foliage. John has also carried the foliage onto the blade. Blade, backspine, and liners are fileworked. Gold thumb bob. Only John’s top-of-the-line knives have the “Smith” signature of 24K Gold inlayed on the blade. $5900.00

Heck, they are all dream knives. ::drool::

Very nice tank. ::drool:: ::drool:: I can't afford it right now (read maybe never, my wife is a great lady but she would not approve), but $595 seems to be a reasonale price for what you are getting. Some expert engravers will charge more than that for the engraving alone. ::tu::

That's a real nice knife for the price. You can see it was differentially heat treated. The line on the blade is a hamon where they quenched the cutting edge and tip before putting the whole knife into the quenchant. The result is that the spine remains relatively "soft" while the cutting edge is hard, 56 to 59 Rc is a good guess with the spine in the low 50, + 0r -. That's a winner in my book, I would like to start makng these next year, hopefully.

I'm nuts over the guy's work, Hukk. Hope I'm not inappropriately plugging him, but his knives get my drool going. Here' what he says about the pic below...

"The blade is W-2 steel forged from 2" square stock ,W-2 is another really good high carbon knife steel and it shows a fantastic hamon line. Over all length - 13 1/4" with a 8" blade. Blade width from spine to cutting edge is 1 9/16" and blade thick at the ricasso is a little over 3/16". The oval guard is Nickel/silver and the handle is professionally stabilized and dyed Water Buck leg bone. This knife, like all my knives, was hand forged and then heat treated using a carefully temperature controlled furnace to obtain the best performance of the steel. Blade was clay coated during heat treatment to produce this amazing hamon. This bowie comes with a hand sewn leather sheath. Price $525 +shipping"

I wonder if it was diffenially heat treated. I thouht it was due to the shape of the hamon. Same effect can be created by using clay, though most have a more random look when done with clay. If clay was used to create a hamon, it may be the same hardnes all over. Nice knife though.
