Was thinking about the movie "No Country for Old Men" the other night. Went to see the new Bond movie and the villain is the same actor in both movies. Add to that they showed a trailer for a gangster movie starring Josh Brolin, who starred in "No Country for Old Men". Anyway, all that makes me think of the demo knife as that movie has one of the best knife references ever.

There's a scene in that movie where Josh Brolin's character, who is a Vietnam vet, is in a hotel and hiding a money bag in the air ducts. He needs to cut some rope and get the screws off the vent covers and he uses...

.... a demo knife.

That really impressed me. Somebody thought through what kind of knife he might be carrying.

I noiticed that knife as well.

I find myself doing that on tv and in movies all the time, trying to brand and date 'em. Deciding wether or not they are period correct etc. ::tu::

I recently did that while watching "The Raven". There's a scene where a mop pk is used to depress a hidden release on a window. I paused and rewound (on DVD). There was a faint stamp but I couldn't make it out. My wife just rolled her eyes and waited  ::rotflol::

jerryd6818 wrote:Thanks Dave. The one I have is stamped 'U.S. Marines' and has no maker stamp on it anywhere. It's been suggested that it's Kingston. I've thought, on and off, of picking up one that has the 'U.S.M.C.' stamp but can't seem to generate enough enthusiasm to pull the trigger. ::shrug::
Jerry, on the knife stamped U.S. MARINE CORPS - look on the edge of the bail for the name "KINGSTON". Per Cole (pg 134), late Marine Corps knives were stamped U.S.M.C., the early ones are stamped like the Kingston you have.

My Veterans Day offering; four Imperials from World War II, one Imperial from Korea, one Camillus from Viet Nam. The WW-II Imperial M-4 was carried by my Dad while he was in the Army in the 1950's (he got it while assigned in Japan the year I was born) - he passed it to me in 1990. I carried it to OIF in 2003 - so it has been there and back again at least twice - nice looking old blade for it's age and still entirely functional. OH

The list of makers includes but is not limited to: Stevens, Kingston, Ulster, Imperial, Western, Case, Queen and Camillus. The one I have has no tang stamp other than the year. I've been told by fellow knife nuts that it is most likely an Imperial based on slight variations of the bail and the base of the can opener. Myself, I'm not sure. ::shrug::

Beautiful knives there fellers.

Guarddog, way to go with the young'un. My oldest two are chomping at the bit to go rabbit hunting with me and papa this year. They're still young for guns yet but they sure want to go.
