New York Knife easy open rescue

Post by orvet »

I picked up this New Your Knife easy open jack last month at the flea market. The knife was in great shape with beautiful bone handles, but the master blade is worn away.

I asked if anyone had a blade for it and Bob (justbob) sent me a nice NYK blade. However the blade he sent was just too big in every dimension. I dug through my blades and found a blade that would fit. I can’t really read the tang stamp, but I think it is Dixon Cutlery Co. U.S.A., circa 1920 as per Goins. At least the blade is from the right era for the NYK.

I installed the new blade and worked on the pen blade to get it to set right and to put a tip on it.
The finished knife makes a great EDC.

The fit of the blade was so close I didn't notice that I needed a bit longer back spring to fit the run up on the Dixon blade. I will eventually need to replace the spring as there is a little gap, but it is OK for now until I get around to replacing the spring.
