handle shrinkage/celluloid

Handle shrinkage was a question I was searching and it ocurred to me that there were many types of celluloid. Having a collection I may have some of that material. I am concerned that the handle will fail, emit the gases that cause rust and cost a valuable investment. Please advise.

I sold mine. It's beautiful stuff but I was not willing to take the chance.

I agree with Paladin. As soon as you notice the first sign of gassing,isolate the knife from the collection. If you have cell handled knives,its a good idea to check them often.

I would not wait until signs of gassing to isolate celluloid knives from the collection, just being celluloid is enough cause to isolate them. I keep my celluloid knives on a shelf in the living room, out of the sun and well away from any other knives.
