I was surprised to see them go over $250 and did not think they would ever reach $330.
I bid on them for a 30th Birthday present for my son, only because of the farm equipment.
I was way out on that one, I would like to know why they sold for such a high price....

My bid was only driven by passion and nothing to do with knives or Schrade
I will find my son a Schrade #72! and save money.

Ken -- Actually it was T.J. that said that. I just happen to agree with it.

It would appear that the Schrade Lake & Walker knives do not have a big following!
There were two SLW2 knives, the one with-out the serrated blade is quite hard to find.
The SLW1 knives do sell on eBay once or twice a year and sell for about US$150. (one sold for under $40)
I like the Lake & Walker knives myself; however, I belive they were hard to sell when they came out in 2000 - 2002. Ken

Ken the Lake and Walker came in a container the same as your's. Here is a set of 5 knives I received today.

Eric Albers, formerly of Schrade, said on 8 July 2010: “The knives (the five knife set of American Revolutionary heroes, released in 1976) were actually made by Imperial for Parker. Schrade Walden was in the midst of a restructuring at the time and there was no way they could have handled the extra volume, so the gang in Providence took up the orders. Most of these early commemoratives were done at the Imperial site.”

These sets are interesting for multiple reasons, one of which are the colors. I have not seen these colors duplicated in any other of the Delrin handled knives we see in the Baer group of companies (or any of the other companies either, for that matter). I have a set also, with matching serial numbers. It is available.

The back spring looks like it was worked in the factory, have you ever seen one like that? Ken.

All the Schrade Walden 885UH's that I own have milled liners and serial numbers

I have also seen serial numbers on knives stamped Schrade NY USA.

A lot of companies milled the liners, also known as jimping. This was done to set the knife apart, give it a unique look and also as a mark of quality. Schrade did this on a number of their patterns or for special runs. I suppose the reason it was not done on all knives is that it was another step in the manufacturing process, and each additional step increases the final price of the knife.

Jimping is common on a lot of Camillus’ Sword Brand knives. Sword Brand knives were Camillus’ top-of-the-line, the very best knives they produced. The advantage of jimping, as I see it, is that it sets the knife apart with a little flashier look without weakening the back springs, as can happen with file worked springs.

Did I read a post sometime back, on one of the forums that said that a lady did some of Schrade's jimping work in her home? I am guessing that this consisted of running stock through embossed rollers like clothes through a wringer, after adjusting the tolerances just....so... Thoughts?
