Should you carry a good knife for personal use?

I have many nice Case XX knives, but I always worry about their value and put them up as soon as I get them.
However when I talk about knives people say I bet you carry a high dollar knife , but I have always carried a cheaper ones for work.
Do you carry good knives are do you just let them sit up in a knife roll too?

I am of the opinion that the makers make them for me to USE. So, YES, I carry and use my custom knives. I have carried a knife (and collected them.), for 31, almost 32 years.

I carry mostly cheaper knives also. Keep my shiny Cases up. I have thrown a case stockman yellow handled cv into the rotation, also a delrin peanut. I figured they will never command high dollar anyway so why not use them.

I guess it all comes down to what each individual qualifies as a good knife. I don't go around using my $105.00 prototype mastadon toothpick to clean off battery cables but I have commited that if I am going to collect nice knives I am going to use some of them for daily activities.

I tried to keep a junker in one pocket and my better knife in the other but it just was not realistic, so I just went to carrying what I consider a good all around knife for the situation. And one that looks good while doing it...

So at the moment I am carrying a smooth bone Hen & Rooster to cut open boxes or even skin something if I have to in a pinch.

That's the saying around the Case factory, so yep I carry nice Case and other brands, I just can't stand a knife laying around in a cabinet.

I try to be economical about what I put into the EDC rotation, because carrying a pristine mint knife is of course a career decision with regard to that knife. Once used, you can't unuse it if you change your mind.

However, I tend to buy individual knives with the intention of either using or not using. I carry some fairly high grade slipjoints with stag or buffalo horn handles to work at the office, since they are dressy won't see very hard use. On the weekends I carry mostly a delrin handled Moore Maker stockman that sees consistent pretty hard use. I don't think I could bring myself to scrape rust off a pipe with a sambar stag Case, but I do believe in carrying nice knives and using them. The highest pleasure in a knife is definitely in the using, in my opinion.

I believe in keeping a good knife on me. I carry a small Boker Congress that was my Dad's as a work knife. When the Boss and I are together, I carry a Fight'n Rooster Gunstock that was a Wedding gift. I only carry knives that were gave to me anymore.

I don't have many 'safe queens.' My favorite knives are also the ones that I carry (coincidence?).
I always have a Case CV, but I sometimes add a beefy 'tactical' knife if I know I'm really going to be hacking away at something.

Waiting for my D2 bonestag Queen to arrive so I can see how it keeps up.

One of my rationales for carrying a good knife, is that you never know when you may be called upon to use it, to cut myself or someone else out of a seatbelt or some other kind of emergency.

TKC, what do you include in your every-day-carry? In case of emergencies like you mentioned, such as a car wreck or other type of accident, I usually put a tactical/one-hander in my pocket or in my coat, in case I need to reach it in a pinch. Otherwise, I use one of my slippies (since they'll take care of any cutting I need to do).

I carry a new case trapper in amber bone with cv blades
Cheap enough & easy to replace if need be One I don't have to worry about..Works for me

I agree, a knife always seems to come in handy and if you're giong to carry a knife, it might as well be a good one. I usually have my Benchmade Apparition in my pocket and always a small Swiss Army (the handiest knife ever) on my key chain.

This one goes with me whenever I'm the driver.
The first picture is how it originally came from David Winston.
In the second picture, I've set it up so it can be removed even with the key in the ignition.
I prefer to carry the best I can afford. JMO.

I carry a Spydercoo Calypso, Jr. burgundy ZDP-189 and I carry a CRK large Sebenza with CRK's Zulu serrations, and a Combat Elite RRF. Some of the other knives in my EDC rotation are: David L. Mosier Instigator, a Mission MPF 1 or a Buck/Mayo TNT. I ALWAYS carry the Calypso, Jr. I always carry at least 3 knives on me. In the summer, I will be EDCing a Spyderco Pacific Salt, yellow handled PE, when I go to the beach.

I believe every body should carry some sort of knife... I carry a Camillus Dominator, thanks to AAPK and a 6318 Case U.S.A.(no dots).
You should carry whatever you are comfortable with.
Of course if I'm going to the "wrong" side of town, for some reason, I just carry my famous "chocolate" knife(LOL!!!).

I carry a knife, made entirely of chocolate, if I even THINK I might have to pull a knife on somebody. That way, if they take my knife away from me and make me eat it, at least it's something I like.
