I don't think that one will go in the books as a cotton sampler ::smirk::

More likely a pilot bush knife or similar... ::nod::

Knifeswapper hit it on the head, it is a Machete that was military issue during WWII. The original Case Cotton Sampler is a large folder.

hey guys, i was joking about this knife. cotton samplers have been bringing a premium on ebay and i thought it was a funny way to try and enhance that old case bolo. the knife itself is good enough without the bogus claim.

I don't own one at present, sold the last one I had about three years ago. If you have a copy of Sargent's volume 6, there's a picture of one on page 43. Come to think of it, I haven't even seen one in the last couple of years.

Hi Johnnie,

No sir that's an original Kabar and Sheffield Cotton Sampler with lots of age on the both of them and in great shape..Both of those knives are not mine..   I bid on them and lost...If I remember right the Kabar went for almost $400... These are excellent specimens..

I read a post by Tony Bose where he studied the old vintage Cotton Samplers and used them to make his Case/Bose repro after..

Here's a couple of fairly nice examples...
The top one is a W. R. Case & Sons. The bottom one is an old Schatt & Morgan...
