Re: What is Your Latest Old Schrade?
That is certainly a whittler in the classic style, with the thick master blade riding on two springs, with a wedge between them, and the two little ones on the other end, each with their own spring. "Mechanics Knife" is just a marketing term; it has no real meaning beyond that. Sometimes the term "Carpenter's Knife" was also used. Your knife is a very nice example. Good show!

Re: What is Your Latest Old Schrade?
A Schrade Walden stamped knife with peachseed bone was probably made before 1957, when they started using composites and Delrin. If the tang stamp happens to just say SCHRADE WALDEN NY minus the USA, it is closer to 1947. Many of the oldest SCHRADE WALDEN NY knives will be stamped on all blades, and do not have a pattern stamped on the back of the master blade. This is closer in style of Schrade Cut Co knives, made prior to 1947. With Schrade, there were traditionally a few inconsistencies and variations in tang stamps.garddogg56 wrote:Thawk thanx. What year do you think?? It varies between patterns, but I think the SCHRADE WALDEN NY USA stamping started in the early 1950's. This information is not official, but more based on looking at a lot of knives on the forums.

Nice 110 robinetn!
I missed a white one recently on ebay. I was pretty upset as I don't have one & have been looking for one for years.
IIRC they only came in black & white.

Re: What is Your Latest Old Schrade?
Cool one Cal... a Cut Co peanut! Do I detect a sabre cut blade there?

A pair of 218's, one with pure white handles.

Another pic of whitey, paired up with a 708B.
These little 2 3/4" jack's look good with the long pull.

Re: What is Your Latest Old Schrade?
Yes, Hal; sabre ground, with strongly cut swedge. Very reminiscent of early 293 trapper, the much bigger knife.

Re: What is Your Latest Old Schrade?
Here is another shot. The larger knife also came with two blades and would be called the 293 after 1946 if the second blade was a spey. I forget some of the pattern numbers. They also made one with a secondary pen, like this smaller knife.

Beautiful examples there Cal, that's one of my favorite blade profiles. You can't beat that cut swedge!

Re: What is Your Latest Old Schrade?
Some real charm from the peanut gallery, Hal. Thanks! I especially like that jigged red bone model. Didn't Robeson use bone that looked much like that? I see knives advertised as Schrade and Camillus, with that tell-tale swedge, that were probably made by Ulster. One related extended family, anyway. My Honda was made in Alabama by Rebs and descendants of slaves, working for Yankee supervisors, and using parts from Mexico, Canada, Japan, Taiwan and...umm... probably Alabama.
