The sheath and knife didn't come together. In fact I've been told my knife is Army Air Corps. The original Navy knife has a bail attached. The pilots had to cut a hole in the sheath to expose the bail for clipping it to their vest. The sheaths were the first thing to get tossed so when I had a chance to get a NOS Navy I jumped on it. They look good together IMHO.
I also have a couple Case XX Machetti's that served the same purpose. Check out the pics.

No, the Navy version with the bail had a slot cut in the sheath from the factory

What do you think about my combination. I know they are both surplus but do you think the Navy had both bail and no bail? I even thought my sheath could actually be a mag (clip) rag or tool sac that coincedently fit the knife. It seemed far fetched that I would find someone with the correct sheath in that condition. I know they look great together and that's all my collection has to do for me. I would like your opinion and pictures from anybody else.

Your sheath is the correct one for the knife. The ones with out the bail were part of a survival kit issued to Navy aviators. I don`t remember if I have a knife with the bail,but I do have a couple without it and need a sheath for them, so if you ever find another one please let me know

I do have a sheath with the slot for the knife with the bail that I will hold on to till I find a nice example to match it with.

Also, after the war they advertised these knives in sportsman`s magazines, they chrome plated the bolsters, liners and blade. The end bolster had a bail. These are hard to find today, I guess they did not appeal to the general public, these knives are too heavy, big and bulky, IMO.

I have two of those;one by Colonial and the other by United Cutlery of Grand Rapids MI.BTW the Neft Safety Knife in the picture is in need of a blade if anyone knows where I can find one.

Here's a knife for sale with a sheath. Maybe you could try to get it then sell the knife? There are a couple more for sale as well but this one has a nice sheath.
