Great lookin' knives guys! Here's my two most recent pick ups...
Kershaw USA Ken Onion designed Needs Work in grey, and a Bear Wharncliffe lockback 3 5/8" closed in Rosewood
Guess I'm livin' on the straight edge lately!

Blue -- The Kershaw Needs Work would be a good one to get you back in the game.

Mike -- Looks like you had two good scores. Tell us about the Bear & Son.

Well Jerry, I ran across this Bear by mistake, found it while looking for a different knife and was struck by the rosewood handle, and the unique-ness of having a single blade knife that is a wharncliffe, and also a lockback...I didn't buy it at first sight, but found myself going back to it and checking it out multiple times,...it had it's hooks in me....then I made the fine boys at Red Hill cutlery an offer they couldn't refuse and before ya know it, she showed up in my mailbox.
My reasoning behind it was that whenever I carry a stockman, I find myself going for the wharncliffe blade more often than the clip or the spey, sometimes going all day using just the wharncliffe and never even bringing the other two out to play at all. So I figured hey, why not get a single bladed knife that has just the wharnie and give that a go?
Anyways, I do really like this little lockback, if I could change one thing on it, and I should have noticed this right away, I would have the lock located midway down the back instead of all the way at the end. That way it would be much easier to close it up with one hand...with the lock all the way at the end I've gotta slide the knife up in my hand before disengaging the the mechanism...risking having the knife slip out of my grip.
Other than that, it is definintely a keeper, fine fit and finish, sharp, solid lock up, thumbs up.

Thanks for the report and I'm glad you like it. I think I hear a whisper in the back of my mind and it's starting to take shape. It appears to be one of those Bear & Son Wharnies.

Just in time for hunting season. Hangas family shop (Ruana) in Bonner, Montana. 8 1/2 inches overall, 1095 steel, Mexican ironwood inserts. A lot nicer than this scan would indicate.
