well lee, i have'nt found out who owned the s&w brand in 1997 yet. maybe one of our members does. maybe then we can decern who actually manufactured it.

Hey Lee, Johnnie & others,

I really do not know for sure just who is the maker for this knife but I some how remember hearing that United Cutlery is the name brand for these knives & I also think that SMKW owns the United Cutlery name. Now with that said, it is my belief that Kevin had the knives made outside the U.S.A., maybe Japan but don't remember for sure on this as its been a while since I heard the story???

When this line of knives came out there was never a Country of origin on any of the Tang Stamps that I know of???

Smith and Wesson was owned by Tomkins PLC, a British firm, between 1987-2001. It seems possible that a licensing agreement for various accessories may have been done internationally. It does look like it might say U.S.A. under the Smith & Wesson...but I'm not wagering on it.

Still, not too many folks actually made Toenails...and Roger-50/2050 must have about 50% of all of those ever made.

I found out stewart taylor is in kingsport tenn. a importer of japan knives!! getting closer!!!

Stewart Taylor bought all of the old Schrade trademarks, and is the current licensee for
Smith & Wesson knives. Most of these are now made in China. However, he doesn't MAKE knives as of yet.
