Tank has requested some military JPK's and others

For Tank or anyone who enjoys photo stories. You can put you own narrative with them. I think it is getting close to the sale of most collections. There are near 60 or so more military including a 1850 foot officers sword, many survival knives, several bayonets. Just more old stuff that I am finding it harder to deal with.
Tank the six inch survival knife you see was my issue when I went into aircrew training in 1961. The model 1917 made in 1918 A.C.Co, bolo I just purchased last evening with a 227uh that I posted in the Schrade legacy forum on this site. I have shown several differing types of military switchblades along with other WWI 1, WW II 2, Korea, and Viet Nam knives. I have not has time to arrange a few of the later blades. More eye candy next time.

Moderators: I realize I am eating a lot of bandwidth but what the heck someone has to. I suppose Bryan is on the cloud or getting ready to migrate there soon. What a concept, nothing to care for but a dumb terminal and a modem.

Here are the last four photo's. In the previous batch in the upper left hand corner of first photo is another model 1917 it is a Plumb CT, I say this because it brings up a question. I have forgot what the CT acronym stands for can anyone enlighten me? Thanks to all.

What a wonderful collection Moss. Those JPK's are nice. Any idea about the initials on 5"? I think the CT is for Cut Tang. Thanks for sharing. Is your 1850 sword made by Ames?

Donald -- I'm assuming you're talking about this one?? That's a WWII U.S. Navy diving knife.

Edit: I don't know if that one is from WWII or not.

One source I found says they were made by Ka-Bar.

"extra-heavy knife with 6" blade. With saw teeth along one edge. The grips are turned wood with a brass pommel. The knife screws into a heavy brass scabbard. These knives were made by KBAR in WWII. Scabbard is marked Mfg'd by Morse Diving Equip. Co. Inc. Boston, Mass, USA. Overall length 14"."

OK, I've put this off as long as I can. I'm trying not to make myself look to dumb but, what is a JPK? I know it's got to be something simple.

Tank, the initials are of an ex shipmate of mine who gave me the later model some years ago. You are correct about cut tang. The sword was made by PD Luneschloss, Imported, assembled and embellished by Tiffany. I dont know just where but it appears in one of my posts here in mil knives as I recollect.

Gringo: Jerry is correct about the Mk V Hard Hat Divers knife. I did not know about the connection to KA Bar but have no reason to refute it. It is a later knife, was used by a Navy diver in the Eighties. The tell is in the town of manufacture.

Divers knives would make a large collection in it's own right. I would not to be surprised if there were not more differing types and manufacturers than Navy Mark 1's. Very in-tresting as the little German(Arte Johnson) used to say on "Laugh In".

In answer to TJmurphy it is acronym for Jet Pilots Knife. In actuality it is a mis nomer in my opinion, I just think someone did not want it to be something so mundane as a Survival Knife or at least that is what they were referred to as several decades ago.

That would be a leading question. I think I would answer it like this. I was issued two Aviators survival knives. One a six inch blade by Camillus in third quarter 1961 and the other a Five inch by Camillus in Jan 1964. I can absolutely guarantee you that I was not a Pilot nor did I ever operate in a Jet. I was an Electronics Countermeasure Operator sitting about ten feet behind a 2750 hp fan(prop) in a Late 40's or maybe 50's Douglas Skyraider the four place(AD5Q) ECM version.So. Yes the knives were issued but, no they were not called JPK's. Should anyone know an Aviation Storekeeper(AK) you could ask them of the details for ordering. I would venture to guess that the ordering info was something on the order of xxxx-xxxx-xxxx (the Number) and Knife, Survival Aviation plus the specs. If you would like to see one let me know and I will dig a photo out of my hard storage archives as I just replaced my Computer after a catastrophic failure. Eleven years isn't bad though.

Moss -- Thanks for setting that straight.

I was using JPK only as what seems to be a generally accepted generic term for the knives. That and "pilot's survival knife" are the only names I've ever seen associated with the knives so I didn't know what else to call it. JPK seemed pretty popular so I figured you would at least know what I was talking about. Again, I appreciate the clarification on my misconception.

You can rest assured that the JPK name was not because of you. Also you did not have a mis conception, they are as you stated called that. I stated from my first mention that it was my opinion only. What we really need is a JPK with a sandbar stag handle. I understand those Sandbars were very prolific in and on the trenches, Jungles, Beaches and Paddies of Viet Nam . And sir, you are welcome.

Thank you all for the info...I have known about these era fighting and survival knives my whole life....but have never paid much attention...just wan't interested....Well this past month or two I have become interested. Just bought one on the Bay and it should be her in a couple of days.
