Moisture control

Post by cloudy »

I have been using some of the little capsules of silican that comes in pill bottles to keep out moisture in my display cases. I wonder if this has any affect on the synthetic handles on the knives. Does anyone know?

I don't think it will cause any problems. I haven't had any problems with it & I have been using them for about a year or so now.

It just helps keep the moisture down to prevent rust. Living in the Willamette Valley (we Oregonians don't tan.......we rust) keeping the moisture down is a good thing, especially since I prefer carbon steel.

I agree with Dale. I have done the same thing for many years now, with no ill effects.

This made me think...
I under stand that we need to wrap the knives is some special paper.
I for got the name of the acid free stuff.
But yet the companys sent the knife with Papers from the fractory.
That are not acid free.
Must we remove the papers and store them not with the knife?
Or is it ok the just wrap the knife in paper and store factory papers in the box with the knife?

Hi 52,

I posted (some time back) about acid free paper, good idea if you haven't the original stuff. Is the paper from the factory acid free?
I've never asked, good question...................

I use the gel packs for my guns, why not knives. Thanks guys!
