Winchester Knife Info Needed

Can anyone tell me anything about this knife? It is marked with Winchester Trademark Made in USA on the main blade, and PAT'd 4/7/08 on the punch. I guess it would be a cattle knife. Is there a name for the blue handle material? Is this knife worth anything? Any info. would be appreciated.

Yes, the knife pictured is a pre 1940 cattle knife with a punch blade. It has celluloid handles. Old Winchesters are collectible. If it was in mint condition it might be worth $400 or so. Yours seems to have some pitting and blade loss. Its still a $50 - $75 knife. It looks like the pattern 3016.

Thanks for the info. What do you think about the date? Is it unusal, or do many of the winchester knives have dates on them?

I'm not a Winchester (or any particular brand) collector per se...but I'm pretty sure that is a Patent date for the punch. Lots of knives have Patent dates...it only means the knife was made sometime after that date.

The knife is a bit rough, but it looks like blue swirl celluloid, (as our remington collector has said), with the scales still in nice shape, at least on the side shown.

What are scales? Does that refer to the handle?

Yes it does.
Because they are 2 pieces, attached to the sides of the handle, rather than covering the entire handle, most folks call them scales.
