Trevor -- I beat the bushes to find ONE Wharnie Stag 72 and you come up with TWO of them in RED STAG no less. How the heck do you do it? ::shrug::

Good find. They're super.

Been a while since I bought anything new so I picked up a few I had been lusting over. They were on the porch when I got home today.

A couple deep canyon chestnuts, Humpback Stkmn 63046 1/2ss and Cheetah 6111 1/2ss
and a Backpocket TB61546ss in moe-lasses

I think that the bone on the cheetah takes first prize.
My pictures are sub-par but you get the idea.

No wonder you've been droolin' over those. I'm not usually much on stockmen but I sure like that one and the stag on that Cheetah is outta sight, drop dead gorgeous.

Tank, that is a monster. What service was that knife built for?
Deep in the guts of most men is buried the involuntary response to the hunter's horn, a prickle of the nape hairs, an acceleration of the pulse, an atavistic memory of his fathers, who killed first with stone, and then with club...Robert Ruark

OH, thanks. I'm not 100% sure but I think both the Army and Marines. I'm sure some other members can give a more precise answer. I'm just now learning about post civil war military knives. I know they were widely available at PX's.

Manufactured by Cattaraugus. The model 225Q was designed for use by the US special forces. With a very stout blade measuring approximatlly 6 inches. Leather handle with a checkered pommel. The knife came with a leather scabbard. However, the scabbard shown here is not the one issued by the factory. The edge weapon featured ont this page may have been created in the aftermarket.
::uc:: ::skeptic:: It was designed for Quartermasters, hence the 225Q stamped tang. Can it be used as a fighting knife? and was it advertised in magazines as a fighting knife? Yes, but the knife is heavy and not a popular choice if you wanted a fighting knife in a real world situation, JMO.

At the bottom of that web page there is a price guide and a rating system.

It rates these as "Rare" ::facepalm:: These are one of the most common WWII era knives you will find if you are just starting out collecting military knives.

However they are hard to find in excellent or better condition ::nod::

Tank, yours is a real beauty :D ::tu:: ::tu::
