I have one of those knives also. I got it in a lot buy that I purchased for one or two of the other knives in the lot. Mine is cheaply made & poorly fit, also from Japan.
Growing up in the 1960's (I graduated High School in 1969), I recall a lot of low quality knives made in Japan in the 1960s. In fact I still have a fruit knife, an Atco I believe, that I bought at Eberhart's Hardware in Ashland, OR about 1963 or 1964 (I was about 12 or 13 - my, how times have changed). The knife was so poorly constructed that about the second time I used it one bolster broke off and the blade flops like a branch in the wind. It was no big loss, you couldn't get an edge on the cheap stainless steel anyway.
