I have to stop going into antique shops. Yesterday when I bought the Ulster and the Kutmaster there was another knife there that was kind of interesting but way overpriced(maybe?). I appeared to be a very cheaply made knife with wood scales and thin blade with just front bolsters. The stamp on it was Robert Klaas Solingen Germany in an oval and there was only one crane instead of the usual two.
Has anyone seen a Klaas knife with this stamp and if so do you know the approximate time it was used? I'm thinking that this may have been possibly pre-1900. I'll have to examine it more closely this weekend.

I have one too Ray. There should be a number stamped on the back of the tang.
If the dating of these holds true with the rest of the Klaas knives, it would be a post 86.

Ray,
I also have some info on them if it turns out to be an early one.
I will dig it up for you.

I think you nailed it Tim;it looks very much like the one you posted.Didn't really look like a recent knife and I can't believe anyone would try to make one look old as it doesn't appear to be either a rare or expensive model. Thanks for posting it.

I have two with those markings and have never been able to find any info on them. One is like the one you describe and basser posted and one is a congress pattern.
