This one came up on feebay at a "buy it now" price that was too good to be true. Owner said he'd sharpened but never used it; lousy photo made it difficult to assess the actual condition but I had to give it a chance.

The owner wasn't lying! It's one of the nicest stag 72 stainless I've seen.

Since he'd honed the knife and it was no longer mint, I decided to keep it in my EDC rotation!

Every time I see this thread the Camillus 72 whittler pops into my head, then I remember "Oh yeah. That's the GEC 72". After scrolling through the posts several times, I've become enamored with the Wharncliffe model and have put it on my wish list. The big question is, when I scrape together enough to get one, will I be able to find one. From what I can see, they're very popular and difficult to get your hands on.

Bob, that knife still looks great! The 72's are one sweet knife. Now, GEC is coming out with a mid-sized lockback that should be a winner, the 42L, but they really got it right with the 72, I think. The 42 will be a little smaller than the 23, but larger than the 72.

You know you're gonna want one!

I finally 72.
I finally found a NIB serialized stag 72 with a clip blade. All of you fine gentlemen buy up all the GEC knives making it dang hard on a novice collector like me! I literally spent two months trying to find one. I will post pictures as soon as I get it. Can someone instruct me on how to make a leather lanyard? How about a leather belt sheath for the 72? I finally don't have to drool! The anticipation is amazing. Thanks for all the pictures and any info!

I think the hours of looking really made me dislike the current blade offered in the 72. I am not sure of the blade name or purpose...it does look like a dang good skinning blade. Not to pointed, making it easy to field dress an animal. Anyone use one of these knives to skin with? Thanks again
