#45 Roughneck Set-up

The clip is looking very nice on the new #45's.

Handles announced so far:
Jigged Bone
Snakewood
Kingwood
LG Abalone (This was listed on the Prod Sched and then dropped from it?...maybe because Early Reserves were filling too fast...

)

I was gonna skip the Roughneck's all together until I saw the snakewood with the wrench shield, being a plumber I wanna get one (I know, I'm not a roughneck, but I do use pipe wrenches daily

It is a rather large shield though and being as most people wouldn't have my reason for buying one I'm not sure how it'll go over.

Well,

As far as shields go.... I think GEC may be moving in the wrong direction

I liked the saw sheild on the lumberjack, it was different. But when I see the Wrench shield and a clip blade of that size, something does not fit here

Just an opinion folks, I think GEC is the best US knife company of today, I just don't care for this model at all. Even though the saw blade on the Lumberjack is not really practical, the knife and components fit well. Does anyone have a clue as why they decided to put such a small blade on this monster knife? The tang itself swallows up the base of the clip blade.

I don't blame ya one bit Russell if I was a plumber I'd do the same. You get the single or 2 blade?

BH I agree with you on that 2 blade,small clip just doesn't work for me either

In regards to the wrench shield,not my preference but if I get a shot at that White Awabi or Pearl Wing single blade,I'm just gonna have to get over it... prolly $200 and change

No 2 blade for me though in any handle material

I had originally said I wanted the two blade, but now that I see them I'm thinking single blade too. I just hope they don't sell out by this weekend when I'll have $$$ to order one.

I hear you Earl on those special handle materials. If they follow the one posted on the GEC website they should be mighty fine. Perhaps my opinion of the wrench shield is being influenced by the clip blade. I may be giving it a bad rap because of seems to me a barlow clip.

BH I think "maybe" we would have a different opinion if we handled one of the 2 bladers..."maybe" but just from looks alone it seems strange and out of place because of size difference in blades. Put a big 'ol clip with that spear I'd be sing'n a different tune. I'm with you on GEC making the best in the US and I'm not one to hack on a maker,they can't please all of us all the time but to put a pipe wrench on an exotic material to me takes away from the handle material,now maybe some ebony would jive better

The positive in all this GEC continues to step outta the box. jmho

I best mind my tongue,one of those wrenches shows up in my keep Trev will be along to rub my nose in it......hehehe

I read where Bill Howard indicated the pipe wrench shield would likely never be used again. IMO, it's a bit out of place on the high end handles, but like someone else mentioned, I'm glad they continue to think outside the box. I do like the saw blade shield, for what it's worth.

Barry - I think the #45 is KILLER for sure!! I also think that the clip blade will be of a useable size.
The clip is looking small next to that huge spear......my guess is that the clip is the size of a #25 Barlow or close (the whole knife). GEC threw us a big curve with all the NF exotics but can't wait to get 'em.........and I am really loving the look of the Primitive Percheron (french draft horse). Wonder what Trade/Occupation the next #45 will honor?
