Fixed Blade "copied" from a folder

I am currently taking part in a bit of fun on British Blades, where the challenge is to build a fixed blade knife that copies a folder. Horror of horrors, I decided to copy the Chinese Enlan 05 - first of all as I thought it would make a cool fixed blade and secondly as I thought it would make a nice change to have someone copy them for a change..... Thought it interesting - and to share here. It's not 100% finished - needs final rub down, sharpening and etching, as well as a sheath, but you can get the idea.

Thanks Gents!! You know how sometimes you can suddenly see something in a different light? It happens to me sometimes with knives I make - you get so involved that you loose a little perspective and then suddenly you see it as if for the first time - almost like through someone else's eyes? Just had one of those moments.
And I think this design would look really good in something like Black or Orange G10 scales, don't you?

I like the fixed blade version. (though I must say the original folder doesn't do anything for me).

I would say your design is a 300% improvement of the original (which was probably a copy of someone else you know)!

Dale, thank you for the kind words - I must admit that I thought there was a certain poetic justice in making of copy of their work - that is, like you say, probably a copy of work done by someone else! I like this little knife too, but I am busy making a second version, that to my mind is a bit more "balanced" - this one is a very handy utility size but the blade is a little short in relation to the handle, like on many folders with around 3" and shorter blades.

That's a great little knife . I like your's much more than the folder. What wood did you use for the scales?

Thanks Smiling Knife, I am glad you like it. The scales are Paduak and I have to admit that I like the way it's come out too - it is a very handy size and would make a very nice little utility. I made this one for the "Knife In The Hat" bit of fun on British Blades, but I can see where it might well become a production model too....
