Kershaw Wild Turkey Repair and Upgrade

Post by orvet »

In the 1980s I sold a lot of Kershaw knives in the cutlery store I managed. As I recall the steel in these was AUS-8A when they came out in the 1980s. , Now I see they are made with AUS-6 steel. I think this is an older one with AUS-8A steel, but it is hard to tell.

The handles on this knife were oily and part of the wood had broken off. I decided that there was no point in swapping old (uninteresting) wood for new wood, so I replaced the wood with carved bone stag. I was pleased with the way it came out.

Hope you enjoy the pics.

Excellent choice Dale. It looks just super. That's another fine job you've done here my son.

Dale that's becoming one of my top picks for handle material. Canal Street has a line of knives with very similar bone handles that I'm very fond of.

The choice of that stag bone for the rework was a good one. It really turned out well; quite pleasing to the eye.

Thanks guys.

Phil I am with you, I think that is some of the best looking bone stag I have seen.
Better looking IMHO than a lot of real stag!

Beautiful work Dale! The Amber Bone Stag is a favorite of mine too. The knife also bears a close resemblence to my favorite Kabar model which is their Dolphin design which just has shorter bolsters, so this knife is already a favorite on two fronts. ::tu::
