Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. I do have a rather psychotic attraction to the canoe pattern. Probably because my Grandpa carried one and he bought me one like his on my 11th birthday. I wish I still had that one.

Thank you for posting those MW. The Ka-Bar is beautiful, I have one too as well as a couple of stag handled ones. The 4 dot is absolutely gorgeous! I love the old single spring models too. One of my favorite EDCs is a Tidioute White Owl and it's single spring construction is a big plus in my book. Anyway, here are my Ka-Bars.

Regarding Case
The single spring canoe is a slimmer knife, like a pen knife on steroids
and IMO....
The assembly required the more skilled craftsman to fit the opposing blades correctly
It was likely more costly in labor to produce, and I suspect, the more highly skilled employees have retired ( again just a suspicion)
I suspect you're right, MW. I have a couple of single spring canoes by other makers as well. They really are sleeker and probably take more time and effort to construct. Here's another canoe from my collection. Come on guys...........post some canoes! My thread is sinking! We need more boats!

Can any one tell me anything about the history of the canoe style? When it originated ect.? When I think Canoe, I think wooden Old Towns from the 1920's, is that around the time when this style was developed?

I'm not sure when the "canoe" pattern first came on the scene. I tend to think like you that it was around the 1920s. I'll have to do some research now that you have my curiosity going.

Beechtree, this is from the "AAPK Guide To Case Knives" :
"This is 3 5/8" knife that is normally classified as a double end jack and are known by almost all collectors as canoes. Most models have two blades that share a single back-spring, but some 131 patterns have three or more blades. The master blade will always be a spear as far as I know, and the other will be a a pen. The three bladed canoes often have a spear, pen and punch blade, and are sometimes grouped into the cattleman's knife category. Newer versions sometimes have a picture of Native Indian in a canoe etched onto the master blade. The first canoe was manufactured sometime prior to 1915."
I'll keep looking when I have time but it seems that Case started making canoes about the time we thought.
