Forgotten Sheath Knife

Post by Chief RID »

I picked this one up 10 years ago for 10 bucks at Dick's Pawn in MB. It was placed into service as a house painting prep knife. It stayed in the bucket for years and was used anytime I did my exterior house painting. It is now getting the attention it deserves. It is a West Cut out of Colorado and it has an interesting handle. The reason I bought it so many years ago. It seems to be well made and has truly been a work horse and held up through it's home repair duties. It will now be pressed into service in a more respectful situation at the skinning pole.

Chief, Western catalog of 1958 shows their line of West-Cut knives. They all had a "K" prefix, such as K-1. They differed mostly in size, and all had that handle that you show. It appears that they were a lower pricepoint knife, but they seem to have been good quality, perhaps not as fancy as some? This is a different run of knives with the West-Cut appelation than those sold in the 1930s. Some of the pre-war West-Cuts were quite fancy.
