Collecting Schatt & Morgan File & Wire Wormgroove

I was wondering if I'm the only one who collects the Schatt & Morgan File & Wire series in wormgroove.???

Cool Sunburst! Is that the Toothpick from the 1st Series or the Medium Toothpick that was just released?
That Series 1 addition 5 Toothpick is the only knife I'm missing from the File & Wire Series. I keep hopeing one will surface on fleabay.

OO LA LA Those are wonderful top shelf knives and photos.
I just

over how you get them so clean.
Perhaps you start out with a gen stone and rub them until they turn in to diamonds?
I start out with a poop knife and no mater how much I rub them they still don't shine.

Thank you everyone, the wormgroove series is the first time I collected an entire set. I found out that it is not as easy gathering the whole set when you start about 5 years late..But it sure does become fun when you find them.

Thanks to the discovery of the Toothpick shown above by El Lobo I completed the set about a year ago. Dave that is indeed the same toothpick you need to complete your set and the one I was missing for sometime, I have not stopped looking for another one for you.

The set now consist of 16 knives with the first edition coming out in 1998 & the most recent addition released Jan 2007. An average of 2 to 3 knives are released every year making this an affordable very fun knife series to collect.

All the steel used in these knives is ATS-34 with the exception of four knives using 420SS (4-7) and the very first knife the folding hunter using 440-A/QS-14 depending the run of the line at the plant.

They are top notch and Queen advertised these knives as the best of the best knives they make when starting the series in 1998. "File & Wire Tested" is an exclusive trademark of Schatt & Morgan in reference to "an old tempering process used by Schatt & Morgan before Rockwell hardness testing evolved.

Thank you for the nice compliments and singin I will probably not be sending these to your house to start your collection..

I have collected the File & Wire Series also. I have 5 more to find before having all sixteen.

Missing the Sway Belly Trapper, Large Texas Toothpick, Reverse Gunstock, CB Morgan Special Gunstock, and Wildcat Driller.

Nice to know that Knowtracks and I aren't they only File & Wire junkies around here..

Then again I pretty much consider all my friends here knife junkies..

The large toothpick, reverse gunstock and sway belly trapper are very hard to find..I have seen the trapper every now and then for sale on ebay..

Congratulations on collecting all 17 F&W knives, you can ask several of the knife folks around here it is hard to get all these knives gathered up these days and becomes an accomplishment once you do..

You are correct on your question about the steel. With the exception of the first knife it seems that 2-7 was made in both 420 & ATS 34. It seems that depending on the run time at the factory if these knives were one or the other. It has been a little of a guessing game until lately when folks have gotten together and shared what steel they owned.

Have you ever seen this link before? It has a nice chart on the F&W knives but I believe that it needs to be updated on the steel availability.

Thanks for sharing your love of these knives and please show us the pictures of your knives once you get them. I agree with you that this File & Wire series is one of the best looking production knives out there and that this series was advertised as the creme of the crop of Schatt & Morgan knives.

Thanks for getting back on the File & Wire. I ordered and just received the book "American Pocketknives, A History of Schatt & Morgan and Queen Cutlery" by David Krauss, PHD. I'm sure it will help to shed some additional light on the series.

Yes, I have been to the Mchenry site and was very impressed by his documentation and collections. In fact, he (Troy) put the entire 16 knives(no 17 in his list at the time) up for auction on ebay. I jumped in line to bidand 2 or 3 days later they were gone. I wrote Troy and he said he got a buy it now offer he couldnt refuse. Over $2000.00 for the 16( dont know how much exactly). I was glad for him and the fact they went for that kind of price.

Wonder when number 18 will come out! And what it will be? I still have the Schatts.!
