Bulldog "Sunday go to Meeting" knife set

I need two of the Oystershell handled and two of the India Stag handled.
There are 9 different handles in the set. They are 2 5/8 inches closed with two blades. There are several on ebay at this time but not the ones I'm looking for

Hey that's great, I am glad it helped you out.

My fingers are convulsing on the thought of wanting to purchase lots of items from that site. Did you think the prices were fair in your opinion, compared to what you have paid for in the past?

Bad news is "we haven't kept the site up to date" Translation = they only add new items and never take off old items that are sold out. The ones I wanted have been out of stock for a long time.
The good news is that they are on ebay a lot. The seller name is silverladdie (James Parker, the son). They have some nice stuff and start their prices very low. They also put out a sales list several times a year. The knives in that will make you drool. I've bought stuff from them several times from the sales list, which is sometimes a little high and some times a bargain
So I'm still looking for 2 of the India Stag handled Sunday Go To Meeting knives. Odd thing is all the other 8 in the series have been turning up regularly on ebay but not that one.

A few more thoughts on your questions
I'd call them first to see if the item is in stock (they have an 800 order line)
I'd watch ebay for a while to see if the item comes up there and the current going price
Almost everything shows up on ebay eventually and the prices vary tremendously from day to day. Sunday and Monday evenings have the greatest number of selections and the most bidders, so the final prices ten to be much higher on those nights. There are usually 22 to 25 thousand items being offered over a seven day period. That's after deleting a lot of the fantasy, daggers and other junk stuff from the "search"

I sent them an email last night to see if they had the items I wanted
to buy in stock, but there has not been a reply as of yet. Can you hear the air leaking out, that's the sound of my balloon sinking to the ground. I thought this was a hidden jewel on some of the prices they were offering...

Thanks for the headsup on the Ebaying on Sunday & Monday, I did not realize those were the days when things tend to be higher in price.

ps Would you know of any good sites for Fight'N Rooster brand knives?
They are not the easiest knifes in the world to find at online stores.

99% of my buying is on ebay so I'm not too familiar with other sites. Other than telling you to try "googling" Fight-n-Rooster (which I'm sure you already have), I can only suggest ebay
Do you do much on ebay?
The items you saw at the bulldog site frequently appear on silverladdie's ebay site if he doesn't sell them all thru his flyer. He starts almost everything at 9.99 but because he carries top notch stuff, the price does go up.

I'll suggest googling/trying other dealers as well...I believe he has shills driving the prices up...JMO, you understand.
You can also call them about being a dealer, and maybe get a better price on multiple purchases.

ONLY MY OPINION...I don't believe most modern Bulldogs will increase much in value...unless you travel in the Parker's circle of collectors.

I don't know about shilling on his ebay stuff. A couple of times I looked at the history on some of the bidders that I thought might be "helping out" but they all were buying from other dealers. I know that his flyer prices are initially high, then several dealers who must be good customers of his and get a discount appear on ebay with some of the same items starting at an attractive price. Sometimes you get a bargain and the final price is less than his flyer price - - and sometimes you don't. My dealings with him have all been positive. I think what ever doesn't sell out from the flyer ends up on his ebay site
As far as bulldog, or any other brand, increasing in value over the years - that's for my kids to worry about. I'm having fun tracking down and buying what appeals to me. So they will get some boxes of knives, all nicely oiled and wrapped and packed away instead of cash

He usually has lots of Fight'n Rooster stuff as well as knives. Sometimes the prices are good, sometimes fair, sometimes high, IMO. I guess like anything on the Bay.
You can also call the store (Cuz's Antiques) in Lebanon TN (615-444-8070) and ask if they have any in stock.
Edited: As I look at your avatar...maybe you already knew that information. Sigh...

Coinshooter, I certainly hope you didn't think I was telling you, or anyone else, what to collect...

I am an "Ecletic" collector myself...if I like it, and I feel it is worth the price, I collect it. Not the best method ...but what the hay.
I was referring more to the large numbers of modern Bulldogs now out there, and the seemingly high prices they tend to command in the Parker's eBay listings. Just an observation about what I have seen, and possibly to be of help to someone new to the Bulldog brand. Nothing more.

Ebay is the great price leveler. It truely is the biggest single market place in the world. And it sets the price. It may take a little bit of time to get thru the "first one in the club to have it" group but then the price will settle down to its real value, what the market is willing to pay.

Actually I believe it is the same company, just a different name. Parker bought and, I assume, still owns Bulldog Knives thru the son.
I have "knife bulldog sunday pen" as a favorite search on ebay so anytime one comes up, I get notified. As I said it's very strange (and the story of my life) that 8 of the 9 knives in the set come up on a regular basis - but the one I want just never comes up

If you aren't that familiar with ebay, you can set up a permanent search that ebay will do for you once a day and notify you whenever something comes up that matches.

All of what you are saying is very much appreciated and recorded in the last couple of working brain cells still recording!!!

I do buy and sell on Ebay and have for a little while, but Ebaying for knives is a pretty new event for me so please do not hold back on the info.

Ebay does seem to be the greatest tool on "what really is this or that items worth". I am just getting into the value end of this hobby and I have to say that when I look at Parker's Price guide Vol 7 some knives in his latest edition are far different than the prices they are bringing on Ebay, there seems to be quite a bit of difference.

All that being said I really love the look of the Bulldogs and some of their designs. But the Fight'N Roosters appeal to me maybe even a little more and the prices seem to indicate other folks like these knives as well. It just seems to be more an item of supply & demand where there are more Bulldogs to be had and only a fraction of Roosters.

But I am a noobie at this and have not even gotten the training wheels off so I have a long way to go, but ain't the thrill of the hunt pretty good to ya....

I will show you how dumb I am, I recently won a Case 1976 stag razor xx edge pen knife in mint condition at Ebay. The thing looked beautiful in the picture and when I received it the knife was beautiful and in mint condition. But I was not prepared for the tiny size of the knife, it had been a long time since I had gandered at a pen knife and no matter how perfect this knife is I still wonder how in the world did I spend $50.00 on that peewee.

Welcome to the "BEEN HAD" club. It's more what they aren't telling you than what they do tell you
Things that are important on ebay
-clear, in focus, no glare pictures of both sides of the nife
-length (as you found out)
-a statement that it is mint or without problem (when they don't say anything about the condition and do say the picture is part of the description, you can pretty much figure the picture isn't going to show the problem and you are stuck)
-makers name and or tang stamp picture
-and best of all - altho it doesn't work every time - the knowledge of all the knife people - how many people are bidding on it, what is the count at 2 minutes or less till closing? If it's high it's probably the real thing
-and I'm sure that there are other things that, if others are watching this conversation, will be posted soon
And finally, book price is good for insurance purposes - nothing else. The purchase price sets the value. And given that ebay has the single largest buyers market in action at any given minute, you will usually see the real value - except, of course, when there are a couple of idiots in a bidding war (I can call them idiots because I've done it) and a $20 knife goes for $50

And one other thing - the latest scam on ebay, S&H charges that aren't stated. You buy the item and then find out that S&H is $10 or $20 and if you won't pay it they will give you a negative. So make sure you get the S&H before you make that winning bid

I was pretty sure that site is a Parker site...just leaving wiggle room.
Your opinion of the Parkers and their pricing/selling practices is higher than mine...however, I respect your opinion, and the Bulldog brand are good quality German (Olbertz) made knives. I have a couple of 1st generation Bulldogs that are very nice. I'm not sure that the newer ones are as well done overall, and are made in as limited of numbers as the older ones...but, that's my opinion only.

I've been accumulating/collecting knives for a little more than 40 years, and am still learning about the hobby/obsession. I agree about eBay as the "Great Equalizer" and I hope newer collectors don't get burned by those trading off of older brand names, and quickly quit the hobby.

You make a very good point about shipping charges...I have passed on a couple of items just because of that very scenario.

What timing...

I just received my Christmas catalog from Parker's Knife Collectors Service. Man, they have a bunch of brands in this one.
What I didn't see were any "Sunday go to Meetin'" pen knives...

...what gives with that? That is a great little pattern, I gave one to a friend and he loves it. I sure hope some of those stag and oystershell show up on eBay for coinshooter's sets.

I'm sure he'll see them before me...but now he's got me interested and looking for him...

There are 9 in the set and I have 8. I only need the India Stag (2).They are pretty little things. I think they are a couple of years out of production and there may not have been that many sets to start with. I kind of like gathering up sets - because they are sets I guess. The last time I ordered from them (best to do it on the phone - then you know before you pay if it's in stock) they said they didn't have any and didn't expect to get any more. They had advertised what they had in a previous flyer and were selling of the remainder on ebay
I've been chasing Parker Abalone Eagle Bullet Trappers for several years. There is a set of 3 made in the late 80's (solid dark blue, rosewood and black micarta handles) made for somebody that went out of business (12,000 sets?). They show up fairly often on ebay, individually. Then there is one with a mottled light blue handle made in 79 for Knife World, don't know the production on that. Then there is a really rare one with MOP handles from the late 70's that also has fancy bolsters. I've only seen one on ebay and it was in a group of MOP parkers (and I paid thru the nose for the group to get that one). Parker also made the same model with white bone handles and fancy bolsters, some plain and some scrimshawed (very nicely) by some company that gave them out as gifts (100 a year I believe). Parker also made another variation which had a hole to run a cord thru (I'm sure there is a tech name for the hole)
Not to brag but I have 2 complete sets of 5 eagles. I need 1 more of the MOP handled and then I'll have 3 sets
They have several sets in the Xmas flyer, I got the Sodbuster and Lil Sodbuster sets. I was tempted by the Gerber set but the others had a bit more "flash" and I was running out of cash for toys for me
