Authentic KENT tang stamp?

Post by TripleF »

I scored this beauty in a lot. I was soooooooooooooooooo happy when I won the bid!
Now, under closer inspection this knife just looks to purty....and the stamp looks like a "cold" stamp. And I don't see the traditional "USA" stamped under NY CITY......

I'm looking to see if this knife is authentic. Your insights are greatly appreciated.

I'd say that there is probably no reason to fake a Kent. I think that it is one of the "other" brands made by a bigger maker. See here, http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/knifewor ... orlist.pdf scroll down. A Kastor/Camillus for F.W. Woolworth. Nice looking knife though.

I have one somewhere with a slightly more tidy stamp but faking a Kent would be like forging pennies. I really don't think anyone would bother.

Well Dimitri....I don't want to step on any toes, but this is the ONLY Kent knife I've EVER seen stamped without the "USA" under NY CITY....so it is a different stamping.....

I have seen Kent NY, without the U.S.A.

This could be another tang variation without the U.S.A.

Whatever the case, without looking at the tang stamp the knife "reads" Kent ::nod::

Yes it does do that D! ::nod:: However, I have never seen a KENT stamp that looked like that. Not sure why someone would put a new blade on this cheaper knife but that's what it appears to be from where I sit.
As far as the non USA STAMP, mine doesn't have USA underneath either.

Ok, so some don't have the USA included in the stamping.....but that one above, if you click on it, and blow it up.....is just sloppy.

They probably saw a rare KENT knife sell for over $15.00 on eBay and they decided, hey.....we can duplicate that stamp.. let's do it.

It just looks backwoods......

Just for comparison, here is another Kent stamp. I have not doubt this is from a good knife, so I'm convinced this "cold stamp" appearance is something that shows up on some Kents.
