ULSTER SCOUT

Post by OLD GAR »

Got this the other day and need some experts advice. I didn't realize the Ulster used a system like Schrade. I thought I could just replace the missing bolster but now wonder if I have to relieve the back side first then epoxy it to the liner. Or would a complete dis-assembly is required and a solder job to attach the new part to the liner. It appears that the knife had a bail but very small hole(s) for attaching it to the bolsters. I can make a new bail out of nickle rod but wonder about the pins and how they fasten in place.

That was likely a press fit bail, not pinned on, a new bolster would need to be relieved the either glued, soldered or pinned on. for home brew jobs I suggest JB Weld. use a sparing amount around the outer edges so it doesn't ooze into the workings and make the blade a permanently folded fixture

Thanks M M (:> The post I read in a thread or two down shows a Schrade with the missing bolster along side. I can see a clearer path to my repair from that post. You said the bail might be "pressed" on. Is that meaning the bail is bent at right angles and spread enough to engage the bolster holes and then squeezed back in place?
