the knife gec dubs whittler

candy red,tractor green,burnt grizz,brimstone,smooth banana,cobblestone,tuna valley stag,green velvet, & saphirre blue. called the stock whitt this pattern was only made in 2008 as far as i can tell. the cobblestone also a whitt was the only one with this blade arrangement. i threw in the 2010 tuna valley since i did'nt know what classification in which it belonged. i noticed that 3 of the handles were acrylic but have'nt seen any more of these type knives in a long time. please fill in with any info & pics if you desire.HiPower

Impressive display, Dennis. I have but one 3-spring whittler and currently no photo of it. I wanted/waited/watched a burnt grizz one for too long and missed out. The deep jigging cuts of the burnt grizz really appeal to me. Speaking of which, does the brimstone version have the same jigging pattern?

All but the stainless Tuna Valley are what GEC calls 3-spring whittlers. GEC just moved the blades around on the cobblestone to keep it interesting. If memory serves there may be one or more distributors that refer to the cobblestone configuration as stockman whittler.

The Cobblestone bone version is a bit of an odd duck - I actually questioned GEC about it, and IIRC, the bottom line is it's a "Stockman Whittler" … ... huh?

Purists might say the GEC 54W's are not true whittlers in that they do not incorporate a wedge that results in the main blade being 'sprung' by the combination of the two secondary springs … while that may be true, I like the 3-spring setup in these, as the result is a nice solid 54 pattern with springs that leave your fingernails intact … ! (You can't say that about the 54 Moose and Big Horn!)

I have an Antique Amber bone 54W in my EDC rotation ...
