Meant to say that the measurement was taken were the blade's the thickest

Thanks. Monster tough pull on it? For reasons I can't explain this one is so different I *think* I want one. The canvas micarta is awful cool.

Maybe it's just the angle of the photos I've seen but this LJ looks like it has less run up than a whaler. Can anyone speak to that?

The knife is fairly stiffly sprung; good one to use yer opener on if ya got a weak thumbnail. Can't say about the "run up" 'cause I don't know what it means.

Pull.......My experience differs from Barry's not even close to being a nail bender...the saw blade a strong 5 while the main blade I'd say a 7 plus/minus a schosh....

Ugly...no way...here the blade width is compared....the Lumberjack might have a thicker blade but its width is narrower that the Whaler...

Not at all ugly! I think the knife is a show stopper! I can't wait to check out the single blade version as I think they are way cool! Ebony and buffalo incoming!!!

The blade width being less than the whaler would explain it having less run up. Less is mo' better IMO.

Ah-Ha! Thanks for the detail on that. The LJ does have less run-up than the Whaler, but I don't have a good way to measure the difference. Prob'ly around 1/16 or 3/32" difference.

Looking at the photos again, I'm assuming the LJ frame is a reversed whaler frame with the blades coming out the narrow end? Dimensionally, the frames are the same, no?

Frame is the same, just master is smaller and at the opposing end. Nice pattern W 1/2 stop. BH

Johnny, You got got to have of these.... Its big in the pictures. But when you see it,feel it, hear it, it demands attention. I only wish the sunfish and whaler had half stops and this kind of snap. Like already said starong snap but manageable since the knife is so large. I got get me a single blade one now.

Thanks, Monk! And remember, if yer motor conks out you can use the blade as a paddle! Also, the saw blade makes a dandy fish scale remover and the tip can be used as a hook disgourger. In the event of a "professional over-run" on yer baitcast reel, the saw also works great for cuttin' out them pesky birds nests! I wouldn't recommend you carry it on board though, for the obvious reason that it'll prob'ly drown ya if'n ya fall in.

Were any of the Lumberjacks serialized???
Also, is there a difference between "Pioneer Bone" and "Primitive Bone" other than the names?

None of the Lumberjacks is serialized. Primitive bone is not the same as Pioneer bone, although they look similar. The Primitive bone is 60 plus year old stuff out of old boneyard(s) and the Pioneer is processed new bone.

The new Lumberjack Spiral Buffalo Horn (picture from Dave@Triple X Cutlery AAPK)...........I've always liked the spiral cut Buffalo though I'm not sure about this iteration ....maybe GEC was concerned about cracking at the pins being so close to the bolster, might explain why the spirals stopped short of the bolster......

The picture on the GES web-site looks just a little different. Where did your picture come from?

And the handles in process look even more different with the spiral going all the way to the bolster.

The photo came from a GEC Distributor right here on AAPK..Triple X Cutlery....and yes I noticed the WIP from GEC site so that's why I was surprised to see this photo..............maybe it's the "Golden Ticket"..open it up and win something even bigger

Thanks - I need to be more aware of my surroundings. I just saw the knife go by in the stores banner on this page.

As you probably noticed the WIP of the red handle spiral horn on the GEC site show the spiral further up to the bolster. I guess we will have to wait to see.

Do you think this pattern will also be released as a Northfield UN-X-LD?

It would be perfect in stag,lined bolsters and no blade etch....yep I could see it happening later
