Three more old ebony handled H. Bokers.
A pocket knife is still an intimate personal possession of the individual who carries it and consequently deserves the best of materials, finish and workmanship in its production. (Quoted from Boker's 1928 cutlery catalog).

MRB & kg888: Thank you. I've always thought ebony handles were underrated & overlooked by a lot of collectors as a handle material; it's always been a favorite of mine. Hopefully, there will be a bunch more pictures posted by others.

Re: Old Ebony Wood Handle Jacks
As MB has opened the thread to knives other than jacks, here's my best ebony handled
Robeson.
It's a 4 1/4" sleeveboard, heavy Anglo-Saxon whittler made in the early to mid 1890's
for Robeson, possibly at the Sherwood - Bingham cutlery works in Camillus, N.Y.
There has been speculation that it's an unmarked German import.
I, personally, do not know.
It's a hefty handful of whittler, though.
The large master spear is stamped, ROBESON / CUTLERY Co.
All three blades have "PREMIER" stamped on one side of the tangs.
It was cleaned a bit before I acquired it.

Some useful information on Ebony wood:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ebony

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ebony
Such a shameAs a result of unsustainable harvesting, many species yielding ebony are now considered threatened. Africa in particular has had most of its indigenous ebony cut down illegally, and for this reason it has become common for street traders to blacken lighter woods with shoe polish in an effort to make a sale.

Re: Old Ebony Wood Handle Knives
That is one spectacular Robeson whittler. I sincerely doubt that it's German unless someone went over there and made sure they didn't do any of those things that make German knives announce themselves when you look at them. It just doesn't speak in German to me.
The rest of those knives are great too folks.

Re: Old Ebony Wood Handle Knives
Thank you, Kathy.
I like these Ebony handled knives. They are usually old and therefore have an interesting history and they are usually built like a tank. Also, unfortunatly, the blades have often been put to a grinder.
I wish I could have put up better pictures. I'm pressed for time these days.
